Be aware of these older 101's, there are many, many reports of poor stock geometry that makes them face beaters.

The new, FN made guns, have different stocks. I had the FN branded version of this gun, it was my favorite O/U and I shot it very well. I feel it was better than my current O/U, a Zoli, at less than half the cost.

I will be reloading after the 30 cases I just bought are gone. However, the reason I was catching was the rules of the place. They expected people to clean up after themselves and catching the hulls was easier than bending down and picking up the hulls.

As far as the technique, what you described is how I saw it being done on the videos and that's what I will try tomorrow when I go shoot.



One of the reasons I bought a Pendleton safe (https://www.pendletonsafes.com/produ...s/traditional/) was so guns would not get banged up in the safe due to their automated "lazy Susan" approach to storage.

I just pop them into my palm right out of the breach. No "catching".

My buddy and I started out with Mossberg O/Us under that price. Those where made in Turkey. Shooting skeet every weekend for 4 to 5 rounds, those Turkish O/Us didn't last a full year.

Replaced it with a Browning 625 Sporting, and about 10 years later, it's functioning just as it did new.

Therefore, I don't believe that cheap, good O/Us exists. Only cheap, junk O/Us.

Ditto on this.^^^ Entry level O/U's start at $1800. Sorry but that is the truth. That way you get something that will last and give you a proper foundation to learn the sport, instead of fighting a POS.

And how many rounds thru that 625 in 10 years?

It's nice to get an actual first hand report. It's often said (but not necessarily from someone that owned one) that the cheaper O/Us just don't last.

If interchangeable chokes are important to you, that's something to watch for.

Wow, that's good to know, interchangeable chokes are real important to me. The Winchester 101 I posted from BassPro can take interchangeable chokes and comes with three: https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/Winc...rUnder-Shotgun

But that is definitely something I will watch our for if purchasing anywhere else.

If you find the right deal on a fixed choke gun, you can always have choke tubes added. Briley as well as others will add tubes to fixed choke guns.

The OU is harder to make, two barrels, complicated triggers, etc.

Tri Star quality is not consistent, eg, the two barrels have different POI.

If raise budget some, try get a beretta 686. The beretta 680 series action is very reliable.

Beretta just released a new version of the 686 silver pigeon last year. Looks nice.
