Rifle/ghost ring sights on an 870

I've toyed with the idea of putting ghost ring sights on my 870. Is it worth the cost? Or is it predominantly something people do for looks?

The bead on the end of the barrel seems to do alright as far as hitting what you're pointing at, but I could see the advantage in having a more precise sighting system, especially if slugs enter the equation.

Also, what are the advantages between installing a ghost ring rear on the receiver vs. just buying the Remington deer barrel that has rifle sights on it?

Anybody have any insight on this?

Bead is faster for quick/point shooting (esp if vent rib). Ghost rings help with accuracy on slug shots. If you practice a lot with your bead, you can get your slug accuracy up to par. Top 3-gunners run vent ribs on their shotguns, and they're really fast hitting poppers & clays with bird shot but also accurate with slugs. Some will put a rear reference point on their ribs to help with slug shots.

Mid-rib bead. Line up the beads, the barrel is lined up with your line of sight.

Hmm, thanks for the insight guys. I have used a friend's shotgun before that had a mid-barrel bead. That was pretty cool. Shot my best round of trap ever with it (23/25). Yeah, I should probably practice more.
