Yeah he is boned. His rear sight needs a 1/2" down adjustment but if it is factory, it is fixed height (windage adjust only) and not even that tall. He could remove it completely and still not have enough. And I doubt someone filed the front sight down because it was never 1/2" either. And the front is soldered on IIRC.

I suppose he could be using a very unconventional sight picture. But I cannot envision any sight picture through the factory rifle sights that sends the round 4 feet high at 50yd. I feel like maybe his barrel end is tweaked, kicking the rounds up. He really needs to try different slugs and from a bench rest though, and we need to see those sight pics.

This is the barrel I think we are talking about

Is your shotgun pre 97 op? If so, here you go.

That requires the receiver to be drilled and tapped. I do not know if the M1 Tac was drilled, judging by all the posts out there where people go through hoops to put a new rear sight on them, I have to wonder.

And a post-97 takes this but again, only if drilled and tapped receiver

But both of those, mounting on the receiver, are even HIGHER STILL because the receiver plane is above the barrel plane. So this would be going in the wrong direction to fix a 4 foot high shot. Like I said, even removing the rear sight completely from the barrel will not correct a 4 foot problem. If you could mount the Ghost ring rear, I estimate he would be shooting 8 feet high even on the lowest setting.

And in any case because those rears mount on a higher plane, they are normally paired with a much taller front sight whose base is again, soldered on.

A 12ga bore sight may quickly tell him if the barrel is bent.

If the beam does not exit the muzzle on center or worse does not exit at all, that is a problem.

Here is a picture of the sights on this gun. I think I'm going to add an RMR so I can just adjust for it and play with some different loads to find a combo that works well.

Talked to TTI, they said send them the gun and they will check it out on them. Very cool.

I'll let you know what they say.

                      Sorry I just saw this:

Taran’s Signature tube and barrel point of impact correction

Last but not least is Taran’s proprietary barrel bending process which ensures point of aim impacts with slugs.
                      So bent barrel it is.

Nice to hear they are taking care of you.

An easy job for any smith.

But, I did get mixed up due to the earlier posts. If he's really that high at 50, a front post is the only answer. (Unless the barrel is bent as you suggested.)

I couldn't find the details online, but I suspect Taran's work included filing the front sight. So, I'd call them and go from there.

Edit, Ha! just read the above.

Yeah, in the end you need that gun sighted dead on at 50 yards. Tell that to Tarin and he'll make it happen.

Also get away from that weird ammo. Sight the gun with Federal Low Recoil Slugs which are readily available everywhere. (Blue Hulls) Save the hulls they reload really well!.

Go to Front Sight and learn how to run the gun. www.frontsight.com

I agree to ditch the weird ammo. Prime doesn't even list it on their website. And last I heard, Prime was hanging on by a toenail, getting sued by their ammo suppliers for non-payment. They don't make this ammo, they contract to have it made. And now I think they are trying to crowdsource funds from customers.

Stick with well known + easy to get ammo.

Ya Prime was the only ammo I could fine. I'm going to ship a box back with it so they can check that out too with the same ammo.

We'll see what happens. Just ordered and RMR for it regardless. We'll get this thing up and running right one way or another.

                              Thanks guys!

OK one more thing here. All Shotgun Slugs do NOT perform the same in every gun.

Some guns just shoot slugs better than others. Over at Castboolits we have a "Casting For Shotguns" Forum and have dedicated much time and effort to finding out what works the best in all types of guns.

There is two kinds of slug guns. Smoothbore barrels and Rifled barrels.

Slug Fit in the barrel is probably the biggest single factor. IE: the closer it fits the better it will shoot,,, maybe! There are lots of other factors as well.

My Browning A5 with the Rifled Barrel and my Non toxic Slugs shoots like this.

With the Smoothbore Barrel it shoots Federal Low Recoil Slugs and my Lee Slug reloads like this.

My 20" Mossberg 500 with the Vang Comped barrel shoots like that too. But with Lyman Slugs that look like a Big Pellet it is all over the place.

If you aren't going to reload your own (very deep Rabbit Hole!!!) Then you need to go out and buy a bunch of different slug loads and try them in your gun, and figure out which ones shoot the best. YMMV Big Time.

Hopefully your gun, after it is sighted in properly, (With Rifle Sights!!!) will shoot slugs like Federal Low Recoil Slugs that are readily available well. A 3" group at 50 yards is as good as you'll get from a Smoothbore,,, so jump up and down if it happens.

You should realize that a 3" group at 50 yards is good enough to hit a man sized target at 100 yards, and nobody is living thru a Center Mass Slug Hit!

Don't get into shooting High Base Slugs because they will hurt you! Low Recoil Slugs and Buckshot are running 1250-1300 fps and that's where it's at..

The hot stuff is a 1-1 1/4 oz slug at 1600+ fps! That is serious power and more knock down power than a .458 Win Mag! There is a serious price to pay on he back end so they should be reserved only for shooting Dinosaurs and pickup trucks.

Try Federal Low Recoil, Winchester, Remington, Brenneke, and find out which one shoots the best. Then learn to shoot the gun like it is.

I'm sure this will work for you!
