    choke tube grease

I have a new shotgun with screw in choke tubes. What grease do you use for the choke tubes? Where do you get it?
I have gun grease. I also have industrial never-seize. I have wheel bering grease and chassis grease for my truck also.

    Thanks for any help----Doug

Pro-Gold grease. The same grease I use for the rest of my SG, and on other guns as well. One tub has lasted me over 20 years.

I use a blue marine anti-seize. Bostik Blue Moly. It doesn't have the metal flakes in it. I had it already for my boat.

I really don't think it's critical. Any high temp stuff that stays on.

I think most choke tubes get stuck due to crappy threads. Another possibility is shooting loose so they don't seal off the gasses/debris, then re-tightening with the schmutz.

I've also been using Pro-Gold grease because i've had the same little jar for a long long time...it was very popular and works well. I don't think it makes a big difference which brand you use.

The major concern is that if you don't put something on, the threads can get rusted on and it's a bear to get them out later.

I have extended screw-on chokes on most of my Trap guns.

After each day of shooting i would run a cleaning rod and mop with some CLP down the barrel, then unscrew the choke tube, run the rod and mop with CLP down again a couple of times. i then took a paper towel to the threads and applied a very thin coat of grease. The receiver i clean with CLP, dry and then lightly grease rails or hinge pins...basically any wear area. For the fire control parts i tend to use a drop of FP-10...you've got to be careful not to over oil or grease if your dealing with a wood stock. Some people advocate using air to blow off any extra oil prior to putting things back together.

This regimen has worked very well for me for several decades now and i used to shoot a lot of Trap when i was younger. i live in a coastal region and shoot in an arid region.

Only need a little - I’ve had the same tube for years.

Anytime you shotgun is out and exposed to moisture (even a mist), when you get home, make sure to take your choke tubes out, dry them (and the barrel) and re-lube.
I learned the hard way, but thankfully I was able to get the choke tube out.

Use the wheel bearing grease that you have.

Vaseline works just fine and a $2 Jar of it will last for along time.

Mobil 1 Synthetic grease - pink stuff. Works well and stays where you put it. Plus, a small tub from an auto parts store will last you a lifetime. I use it on locking lugs and hinge points on an o/u as well as the chokes.

I use a full synthetic motor oil also, but, Vaseline, well, hadn't thought of that. Guessing it would work just fine.

I use high temp wheel bearing / brake grease. I use it for BCG bearing surfaces too.

                            ><

As long as you put some kind of lube on the tubes you're GTG. The rest is dealers choice or use whatcha got.

MP-7 Gun Oil. You don't need something crazy. Just slightly loosen the chokes after shooting or clean and put back in. 20 years and hundreds of thousands of rounds, never had a choke issue.
