Field Shotguns can only have 3 rounds in them,,, period! You can't use the mag fed gun for hunting anywhere but Texas on Pigs.

These guns are clunky to run,,,, El Squids points are spot on !!!

Once you learn how to run a shotgun in a proper manner, the supposed advantages of the magazine fed option quickly disappear.

Keeping a tube topped up is much easier than running the gun dry and changing a magazine under stress.

Plus that if you do run the gun dry you need to be able to port load it. and you can't do that with these mag fed guns. I don't know how the factories missed this???.

How unreliable is a pump shotgun though? Decent tube fed pump shotguns are extremely reliable. I'd imagine any gain in reliability from a magazine would be marginal relative to a quality tube fed shotgun.

I was seriously considering an 870 DM. But I backed off when I realized it didn't fit with the "fight with what's on the gun" idea. My regular HD shotgun (500) has 7 in the tube and 6 on a side saddle. That's still more than two 6 round mags. Even with a regular 870 with an extension that's still 6+6. Not counting putting a buttstock shell holder if you wanted a really heavy gun.

I did end up buying another 870 though. A police trade in w/ a Surefire forend for $230. Score!

I'll keep running a tube for now.

On a Remington you can put a long tube on it. I guess max for CA is 10, but that's still more than 6 in a box mag. If you want a box mag, get a Mossberg that has 20 in the box. Doesn't help in CA, but good elsewhere.

I don't think tubes count. Maybe semi autos are different. Who friggin knows with this state though.

The problem with the Mossys is the price of their mags. At least the Remington mags are reasonable. They had problems with reliability with mags over 6 though.

CA large capacity magazine laws do not apply to fixed tubular magazines on rimfire firearms.

CA large capacity magazine laws apply to fixed tubular magazines on bolt-action centerfire firearms, pump-action centerfire firearms, and semi-auto centerfire firearms.

CA large capacity magazine laws does not apply to lever-action firearms.
^This exemption happened as a result of cowboy action shooting groups selling their support to pass the CA large capacity magazine legislation.

I went and looked at one. I bought it. It's pretty solid. Yes it's also heavy, but not ungodly so. I just couldn't pull the trigger on a ksg. Just too finicky.

I got the last one in orange. If it's good enough for Joe Biden it's good enough for me.

Seriously, these mag-fed shotguns are hideous AND useless. It’s like those VW Beetles that guys chop up and weld on a truck: sure you can, and it looks cool at first, but it’s not actually going to be used effectively.

If you know how an 870 works, it is not necessary to run the live rounds through the action and into the chamber in order to unload the magazine tube.

The mag feed units are simpler than tube fed and reload a heck of a lot faster. My vepr 12 hasn't had any misdeeds but my Ithaca 37 certainly has, especially in a goose blind at 10 F.

                        For $250.00 I think I'll chance it.

Was under the impression that for non game hunting you don't have a magazine size restriction. I go out in the field with my 590 8 shooter fully loaded. Mainly just to walk in the woods, should I spy a yote it's getting shot. Am I violating game regulations?

I think u might be. Let's say that walk in the woods happens to cross a dog blind and your sitting in it. You probably will be cited.

I get that part but of I don't shoot at ducks, doves, & other such things only hunt non game I.E. coyotes. What I remember reading, cal game codes do not have magazine restrictions along with free rein on shot size.

Gotta read it again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
