Best Pistol Shotgun for Home

For HD I like the Ar style (pistol grip with shoulder stock). Can maneuver with 1 hand (dialing 911, etc.) yet maintain control of the firearm (pointing or attemped disarm).

Just to screw things up how about the American Gun Craft bulldog. eleven inch barrels, pistol grip, 12 gauge, and not a fire arm until the caps are put on the nipples because it is black powder meaning you can load it as heavy or light as you want. Rock salt to 12 gauge. Two shots individually fired and with an over all length of 17 inches very easy to swing. Just a thought, and no license, permit and California legal. Just order and they mail it to you directly.

Under CA laws...

Because it is a blackpowder muzzle loading firearm, it is considered an "antique firearm" under CA laws. [PC 16170(b)]

Because it uses a percussion cap ignition system, it is also an "antique firearm" that is exempt from CA generally prohibited weapons laws. [PC 16170(c)(1)]

Which means the following exemptions to CA firearm laws applies...

Do you mean pistol grip with a stock or without a stock? Pump or Semi Auto?

The question of "which is best" for any gun is almost always debatable and seldom is there any consensus...best pistol, best rifle, best 1911, etc. With that said, however, the Benelli m4 is most certainly ONE of the best. But it has a stock. And it's a semi auto.

My HD "shotgun" is a 12 gauge Remington 870 with a +2 factory extension, but I may ditch the extension as I don't trust it 100% not to cause a jam. Remington now makes a 870 6+1 with long magazine tube, instead of having an extension.

I probably would have done something already about the extension if the 870 was my only HD weapon, but I have a 9 mm in the night stand.

4+1 is plenty. Get a stock. If you aren't going to practice a lot, consider a quality auto loader. It is too easy to short shuck a pump under stress, if you aren't well practiced. Remington or Mossberg, but a M4 if you have the bucks or have a high probability of needing a HD gun.

For hd / sd shotguns here, there's an 1187SP in the corner of my side of the bedroom, and a Mossberg pump gun in 20, with an 18" interchangeable choke barrel.

If I decided to change to a pump gun, I'd go Ithaca in an instant. Workmanship and smoothness on a well taken care of older gun will make you smile.

There's also a kind of last ditch sg near the front door but not visible from the outside. It's a Stevens 310 iirc, 12 ga double, side b side. Barrels were cut down and re-regulated to 30 feet. The stock was shortened to get an overall length of 26-1/2 inches. From 8-10 feet away, it makes a hole in the target you could shove a softball through.

Pistol grip only shotguns might be good for robbing liquor stores, but are inaccurate for HD. Have fun hurting your wrist shooting it.

And may I suggest 3" magnum loads? The most expensive ones are obviously the best.
