Need help.. New gun :) Dented muzzle crown :(

I'm looking for someone in the bay area that can pull a small dent out of my muzzle crown. I just got a new Saiga-12 and it has a very small dent in the muzzle crown. Is that easily fixable? Should I have it done locally or hassle with warranty repairs? Thanks!

Can you post a pic of the problem?

Your best bet is to cut and re-crown it.

Where is the dent? Can't see in pic...
Is it a dent IN the ridge of the crown itself? If so just shoot and forget about it. Its a shotgun for pete's sake...
If it bothers you that much though do as Fjold recomends, just cut it back a little (still making legal length of course) and smooth out the burs with a round hand file (what your gunsmith will do).

Dent is at the top edge of the pic. You can see that it's not a true circle.

Check with a high end shotgun shop, They have swagers that are basically forced into the barrel and iron out dents.

Brownells might ve the swagers (dent removers) for sale.

I am not familiar with Saigas, are they fixed chokes?

If its fixed, then your restriction will be off especially if you cut it. Its important that the length of a choke is not altered so it will optimize the intended choke, hence the pattern. But if this is for home defense/tactical I agree with fjold. The answer really depends on your intended use...

Live with it, you'll get it fixed and just get another. It won't hurt anything and it adds character.

Did you drop it on the end of the barrel? OUCH! a gunsmith should be able to fix that no problem. Like others said, I'd probably just live with it unless it's a high end trap gun (Saiga12, I think not). Either way good luck

Kinda like when you buy a new car and it has a dent in the body, "hey just live with it, it wont hurt anything and its adds character!'

No I did not drop it, it came to me like that fresh from the shop.

If you can help with this please post if not I don't really need the 'just live with it" posts. If it was just cosmetic I would just ignore it and go about life. I just got a BCM upper that has a large chunk out of the upper but since its just on the surface and does not interfere with operation I just let that go.

This distorts the end of the barrel and if you put your finger in there you can feel that it adds a ramp to the bore. It will likely send a bunch of BB's to the left and down on each shot. I don't know how much clearance slugs have but am worried that they could get stuck in there.

Character I don't mind but when functionality is affected then I do. This was an expensive purchase for me and I don't think having it work correctly is asking too much.

Is there anyone around the Bay area that can ream this out or cut and re-crown it?

Now you have a good excuse to have the barrel threaded for chokes if you have it cut and re-crowned. Then you can mess around with different chokes for a variation of patterns, or put a rifled choke tube in and shoot sabot slugs out of it to the envy of all your other Saiga-12 friends.

Carlson's might do it. They are a little pricey but you will get a quality job done.

Sorry, this is the Internet, you don't get to pick and choose what feedback you get. The advice you get is worth what you paid for it....

Anyways, my opinion, talk to the shop you bought it from.

I asked for advice about fixing it, not if I should ignore it and hopes it fixes itself once I start flinging lead down a distorted barrel, or if since it's not a trap gun does it matter anyway and am I allowed to expect it to be in good condition.

Obviously I can't control what people say on the net, but I can ask, in my own thread that you not post if you can't help with what I'm asking.

Waterfowler, thanks that's what I'm looking for just someone local if possible.

I am calling the shop tomorrow morning and may send it back but I'd much rather find someone local so I don't have to be without it for weeks and if I can support a calgunner who does this kind of thing I would rather throw some work their way.
