For hunting I always use a vest as it also provides a spot for the birds (like doves) and I find it comfortable- unlike an incredibly heavy belt.

Hunting "game bags" have the big vinyl lined blood proof pouch at the rear. Not on your back, pulling your shoulders rearward and down when loaded with dove, rabbits, quail, etc. Look at the pic in the link.

And never gets in the way of a quick mount when game flushes. Like vests sometimes do.

After first few seasons hunting in Imperial Cnty back in the 60s wearing a vest. Dove-Quail-Rabbits mostly. Sweating my cajones off in 100 plus degree heat. I figured there had to be a better way.

For me and all the guys I hunt with. Didn't take long to figure out that game bags were the better way.

I found "bandoliers" from M-16 hold about 35 rounds in each; I carry around 6 bandoliers for "crowd control".
