Heard lots of good things about the Remington Versamax too...but again...I don't think they offer it in wood.

How badly do you want wood?

If you hunt, especially for waterfowl i suggest dropping the idea of wood furniture.
Water will ruin it. You want to hunt, not to baby your gun. Also, get camo version, not because it is camo but because it protects the metal parts from rusting. Salt water or blood will leave marks on metal.

Never buy A300, it is a POS at the best. Thanks God i just got rid of one of those.
Get Rem V3 or if you have more to spend, get maxus 3"

Ever since Lead was banned in hunting, a simple over / under does not cover it all.
BS. Get a Citori with 3" chambers and 28" barrels and you are good to go for anything you want to shoot.

If you are only going to have one shotgun, make it an 870 Wingmaster 3" Magnum. Not an Express. Not a Super Mag. A Wingmaster is inexpensive used, there are lots out there, plenty of extra barrels and chokes and spares, it is dead nuts reliable, and it will make you a better shooter. Once you figure things out and know more about shotguns, then you can spend big bucks on a shotgun but you won't find a more reliable or versatile shotgun than a Wingmaster. Period.

I am thinking of getting a shotgun. I would like a semi-auto but not one of the tacticals. Would like the wood furniture.

            Uses: Skeet/Trap, hunting.

Thank you in advance for your positive thoughts.
OP. If you want it for both hunting and clays, start looking around for a used Remi 1187 if you want a semi, or an 870 if you want a pump. That way you can change the furniture on them for your needs. With all the third party support for those models, you will have no problem getting extra stocks and forearms for them. Get at least a 26" barrel for either model.

Sometimes you will see an 870 wingmaster go for less than $300.00 and an 1187 for less than $450.00 Replace the furniture with synthetic pieces: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/26...1986-synthetic

and you have the best of both worlds. If you get serious, you can always sell them and upgrade to something else. No other models have this kind of support and they are always for sale in the marketplace.

EDIT: If anyone complains about the o-ring with the 1187, go to Home Depot with it and buy the same size. Buy 5 every five years and you won't have to worry about them. LOL

I bet "someone" mentions a Beretta A300! Just a guess on my part although I hear great things about them.

Im not a shotgun guy. But since things have changed with ranges around here shotguns have steered me in another direction. Im really happy with the Beretta 1301 Comp. Its light, fast to target and just a nice gun all around in my opinion.

Sorry but its composite. Not sure if anyone make a wood stock for it.

If you really need a woody gun then a Benelli Ethos or Benelli Ultra light are great choices too. The Benelli's are very reliable and function with low power skeet loads and also the 3 inch mags for hunting. Recoil is pretty tame with them and they come with parts to adjust them to fit you. The set up on mine is perfect just bring it up to my shoulder and where ever I look it hits...
I am a big Benelli fan too! Couldn't agree more with your words. Just have to clean the darn chokes!
