I think they go for $1200 to $1600...
Randy you should be flamed a little bit. Your statement that LAPD rank and file uses the M4 was a red herring.
why would rank and file of LAPD be issued an m4, well there are many reasons. for one the m3 is a technical / tactical weapon. LAPD like everyone else has many poor shooters who only shoot when qualifying, so why would they issue a weapon that requires practice?? I may be wrong but I do not belive the M3 is in production. THat would be another reason not to issue it. Plus they are not shooting gas, less lethal projectiles, flashbang rounds etc etc out of them. The m3 was deployed by swat teams who benefit from one source that can deploy multiple force options.

I'll agree that this weapon is not for most...but not because it is not a great shotgun but because it is more than most shooters need.

I just saw one at City Arms in Pacifica last weekend...I think it was around $1400 more or less..Didn't have much time to give it a look over but it seemed in great shape.

The M3 is still being produced. There 2 brand new M3's at Oaktree as of 4/9/09.

The M4 isn't issued to LAPD the rank and file are authorized to buy them for duty use by the powers that be. The issue shotgun is an 870.

I don't know about who uses less lethal in the PD's. Having a gun that could be used in lethal and non lethal situation is just bad juju. Like you said some officers only shoot for qual. Why would you give them something they might put in the wrong round under a stressful time. That's why they have different colored furniture for less lethal guns. Maybe not LAPD but other depts.

If you are going in with a non lethal option the guy or guys or gals doing it are going to have a dedicated weapon system. No ahhhh less chance for a screw up.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

I use to own a SPAS-12 but unloaded it for a Benelli S90M3, way better gun all around.

I shoot skeet with it also, it's a very fast handling shotgun when you practice with it. I wouldn't own any other shotgun becasue the M3 is two guns in one, the selector switch to go from semi to pump is fast and easy.

The only ammo that it doesn't like in semi are those POS all plastic ACTIV shells.
