    Show me your coach gun.

So I just bought a Savage 5100 side by side With the plans on turning it into a coach gun. Thinking of cutting it down to 20”.
Inspire me Calguns and show me your coach guns and by all means share your experiences of shooting a coach gun

I got this one years ago. Made in Spain. I do like the engraving. I think everyone should have a side by side, exposed hammer, 12ga. Barrels are 18.5 in length. Fun to shoot, always a smile on my face.

Nothing, that's what I'm going to do. If that alcoholic wife beater wants my guns he can go pound sand.

Rant over, I always liked the look of coach guns, bring the old west to mind.

A short-barreled side-by-side has always, is now, and always will be a most wicked-looking piece. One day one will find it's way home, here, at the right price. Meanwhile, I do have handy other forms of shotgun effectiveness.

                  Until then, then.

Got mine cheap 250 OTD including dros( Greg David over at Eddies shotting sports thru in the Dros for free for my B-Day)

Thinking about having choke tubes installed for more versatility. Whats the consensus on shooting Buck shot thru choke tubes?

Lead double-aught is fine, choked, but I've not hunted with it. I speak only from defensive shotgun practice experience. I do pattern my loads and barrels on paper. 00, or 000 or whatever buck shot size also fine through a cylinder bore choke (no choke). Of the several shotguns I own, two are Wingmasters wearing short barrels; one is not choked (cylinder bore), the other, MOD choked. The MODified choke barrel keeps the pattern a little tighter through 15yards, that's all.

For the up-close-and-personal distances one might wield a coach gun, chokes may not be worth the hassle when shot speed (velocity) can have a similar affect on shot pattern at 3, 5, 10, 15 yard ranges. Are you going to use a coach gun (18-20" barrels) for much beyond 50 feet?

First, pattern your gun after you cut it. Use different velocity loads, all the way from Reduced Recoil (typically 1150 fps), through your standard 00 buck (1300 fps) loadings and on to stuff like Hornady's Critical Defense(1600 fps). You'll know more then.

Live with it the way it is.
It will cost you just as much as the gun cost, to have choke tubes installed.
