I like my a300. Never shot a franchi. Friend has one - no problems.

Gas guns recoil less than inertia guns, IMO. You won’t notice if you shout 2-3 boxes but will if you shoot a case. That’s been my experience when I hunt in Mexico.

I heard the bolt release is an issue?

        Your choice.
This may be referring to me mentioning not wanting another 1100 in my OP.

I love the 1100 and they are one of the lowest recoil guns I've ever used in either 12 or 20g.

The reason I don't want another is that I no longer want to deal with the o-ring gas system (in a new gun anyway) and I have not been impressed with Remington's customer service lately (which is not the gun's fault).

Other than that, I think 1100s are a light recoiling, reliable (if slightly outdated) gun and while I won't buy one new, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one used if a good deal came along.

If you're going to start looking at variables instead of deciding between two guns you're going to just need to shoot then all and decide which one fits you best.

Edit: you should probably shoot them first no matter which route you go
You said you liked southbay rod and gun. I've used the rifle range but never the trap (usually P2k). When are you usually there?

South Bay only does trap Saturday Sunday all day and Wednesday evenings. I go there just because I have a membership and it's convenient. The guys running the shotgun Ranger really good guys too.

I've been wanting to check out p2k however I've only been to the pistol range once. I thought it was weird they make you take a test just to shoot but I understand safety so that's fine. I've been wanting to check out five stands at p2k so I'll probably be checking that out soon as well.

I might be there this Sunday, at South Bay that is PM me if you want.

Edit: wife has a Cinco de mayo party planned Saturday and I have the Gunfighter tactical long range shoot Sunday so this weekend is out. Next weekend will be best or p2k in the interim.

OP, check out the Remington V3. I handled several at a Sportsman's Warehouse not too long ago, and I liked the way it heft in the hand/arms.

They were less expensive than either the Beretta A300 and Franchi Affinity. They " swing " and " point " as instinctively as the Winchester SX3 at a cheaper price. I've not read any problems with them so far, but maybe because they are relatively new on the market.

I currently own SX3’s, Maxus, Affinity’s, SA-08’s and FABARM L4S. I’ve owned an A300 and 930. The fit is noticeably different between the A300 and Affinity. The fit of an 870 is closer to the Affinity IMO. I don’t notice a huge difference in recoil between my Affinity’s and gas guns when shooting dove loads. It is pretty noticeable to me when shooting heavier loads. The 930 is a pretty soft shooter to me.

Sorry I meant to get back to you sooner. The safety test at P2K is a breeze. A bit like the FSC test and they give you a signed card that you show them each time you go back so you only have to do it the once.

I've taken a couple guys there who had never shot a gun in their lives and they were able to pass the test with no trouble. An experienced shooter can get through it in a couple minutes.

Are the ergonomics of the V3 very similar to older Remington designs (1100 or 870)?

I like the feel of the 1100 and 870 in the hand and I have heard good things about the V3 so it might be worth another look.
