    Side Carriers for Mossberg 590A1

I been looking over this for a few days now. What's everyone experiences with the various systems out there? Do the hook and loop ones hold up? How are the aluminum ones in regards to mounting and how they affect the receiver?

I went with velcro shot cards, didn't want that stuff hanging off the action pins. Haven't had any issues with it on my 590a1. So far I haven't had the loops loosen to the point where recoil moves the shells out of the loops. I tend to practice a bit with reloads and then just leave the card off the rest of the time while at the range busting clays and cans. I'll throw the card back on when the shotgun gets home. I'm leaning towards it being good to have an extra 6 but the 8 +1 gets it done just fine and years hunting has me pulling from the pocket pretty quickly anyhow. Would I spend the money on a high dollar one? No, training is what's needed not gadgetry.

I've been using the Esstac 7 round cards for a couple months now & 400 or 500 rounds later and they seem to be holding up just fine.

The ones that replace the pins with screws are a pin in the *** to deal with to clean it. I stick with an elastic butt cuff for all my HD shotguns.

This is a total lie. They are super easy to install and do NOT need to be removed when cleaning. However the butstock elastic are crappy to use key word is the elastic ones. I did have one that strapped on and worked well. The elastic ones just slid around. They hold the shells fine of you not moving or trying to remove the shells for reloads. If anything do not get a buttstock one. Side of the receiver is the way to go.

i've used velcro cards and had no issues.
newer 500 came with an ATI sidesaddle that also adds a scope rail.
seems to work fine as well.

I use velcro on my 590, with no real issues.

Being left-handed, I did have to trim one round off the card for clearance to the trigger.

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

I bought Tacstar 6 rd receiver mounts.
Supposed to be mounted via bolts. I used heavy hook n loop to stick them on. They stay put unless you need to wrestle them off.
The buttstock slip over types do get in the way when you need to shoot R vs L handed and they can slip.

I figure that the tube holds 8 and I can fit 4 more in the stock. If I can’t hit my target with 12 rounds, I don’t think 4 to 8 more rounds are going to help.

that's a pretty common opinion, and i think it depends on what kinds of things you will be doing, or the size of your property.

assuming 4-6 shell capacity, it can still be significant in a multi-target situation (some calgunners may live on a ranch or multi-building property).

for myself, without that kind of requirement, i typically have slugs in the saddle, while the gun is loaded with buckshot (for standby home defense use).
while it would not be likely that i would need a slug to protect my home, the odds aren't particularly different than needing the shotgun in the first place, and i'd rather have some when i grab my shotgun (for whatever life threatening reason) than not.

Velcro is definitely the way to go and I recommend Browncoat Tactical

These use a Velcro tape on the receiver that can be removed if necessary and replaced without altering the gun in any way.

They are quick to install, and so much faster to recharge it is stupid. rip slap and you are reloaded.

Dedicate side saddles are a PITB to reload and once you empty one you are done with it until there is time to reload it. Which only buys you another 6 or so shots.

With the Velcro one you can have multiples with different ammo if you desire and all it takes to change one is ripping it off the gun and slapping a new one on.

Extras fit perfectly in an AR Mag Pouch.
