It seems like the 870 must fit you better and points more naturally than the Mossberg. Have you noticed if the weight and balance feel better to you than the Mossberg?

As I said in the OP, my Mossberg was sent off for repair. The update on that is that is fixed and due to be delivered on Monday. In the meantime, I have taken the 870 out for ducks on four trips..... and I gotta tell ya, the 870 has been an Angel of Death for the ducks. Just about everything I point it at falls from the sky. I've hit more doubles in the last four trips than I've hit in my entire life. Even the teal buzzing by parallel to the blind on passing shots are getting creamed. It's like a magic wand.

I don't see how I can sell this gun after the Mossberg gets home. Further, I'm not sure the Mossberg is going to be in the starting lineup what it does get back.

Kind of a Wally Pipp/Lou Gehrig situation - if you know your baseball history.
Just think if you'd bought a used Nova, you'd be limiting out on ducks with 4 rounds.

Hard to say.... I'll do a comparison on Monday when the Mossberg shows back up. My impression is that the 870 does fit me better, and the extra weight gives me a smoother swing. I wouldn't want to carry the 870 in the field though, it is a lot heavier than the Mossberg. But sitting in a stationary duck blind, it is no big deal.

Naw - the Nova is too ugly. I'd be embarrassed to be seen with one in public. Although.... I might save on ammo if the ducks die of laughter as they buzz by and see me waiving such a homely beast.

Speaking of which.... when are you and I going to get out for a hunt? Time's a wasting.

Just used my 870 - limit of ducks! Fun morning! I have another 870 in jail (same furniture as my hunting gun but has the 18.5” barrel with rifle sights). I’ll blast and cerakote like I did with my other one.

Plastic furniture, cerakote/alumahyde, polish chamber, and replace the extractor are the mods I’ve done to keep it running well.

Well, I carried the 870 in the field for a many many years since it was the only shotgun I had. I didn't know it was heavy.

firing all three shots - one of my buddies saying "man, you shoot that semi auto fast."

I carried a Remington 1100 12 gauge for a season or two. That thing was a frickin' boat anchor, and finicky. Sold it off and never looked back.

I got my barrel back from Hans Vang yesterday and reassembled the gun.

Have to sight it in and re-pattern it but that will have to wait until my range reopens after the fires and mudslides.

Other than ergonomics I've never noticed a big difference in the 870 and 500/590. I own both and have never had a problem with either.

One big difference between the two if you like pistol grips. The Mossberg safety is very hard to get to with a pistolgrip, but easier to get to with a standard stock/grip. I'm not a fan of pistolgrips on shotguns.
