I'd never encourage any non-compliance with the law, but if you were simply displaying the shotgun and had no other plans to shoot or sell it, there's no way the ATF could possibly know you had a restricted item. I'm NOT encouraging, just stating.

Then you're golden at the moment. Why don't you get another barrel and cut it to 18". If you ever move out of CA, submit a form 1 and put the original back on. You can always dummy up another barrel, OR dummy the origin barrel by drilling and welding the chamber closed

Too late. There is a record of it now on the webs. For billions to see. Op, shoulda just displayed it as it was in a sealed secure case.

          Take it to Pawn Stars.

          They know a guy...
It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.
You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.
You alone and our own have earned it with...Your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever.

          The title is....."United States Marine".

              Permanently inoperable.
A firearm which is incapable of discharging a shot by means of an explosive and incapable of being readily restored to a firing condition. An acceptable method of rendering most firearms permanently inoperable is to fusion weld the chamber closed and fusion weld the barrel solidly to the frame. Certain unusual firearms require other methods to render the firearm permanently inoperable. Contact ATF for instructions.
              What he said.

If this is a Title 2 SBS, then the barrels will need to be made inoperable as well.
Fusion weld of a cross bar in the barrel or "cementing" the barrel, will accomplish this.
^"cementing" = pour cement in barrel, filling barrel, and let harden or pour molten lead in barrel, filling barrel, and let it cool/harden.

I thought that C&R SBS was one of the legal avenues? Granted, I haven't been paying any attention - did it change?

If it's a legal gun ( in the other state ) with an existing tax stamp...

C&R SBS are CA legal and do not require a CA DOJ Dangerous Weapons Permit for a SBS to legally own/possess in CA.

                  That's if it's a legal C&R Title 2 SBS.

Since the OP is not forthcoming on the legal status of the "shotgun", it's unknown if this would apply to his situation.

OP would also need an 03 FFL presumably.

What is the BATFE rules on demilling firearms?

How much needs to be removed from a bazooka before it is no longer deemed a firearm?

Are we looking to make the gun where a DA would not file charges?
Remove firing pins, weld up firing pin holes with deep penetrating TIG

Machine a 12” plug with the same taper as the barrel, machine holes every 2” in the bottom of the barrel and TIG weld the plug into the barrel so the chamber and a portion of the barrel are now solid.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                      (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

And go through BATFE approval for a Form 5.

Stevens 620's are easy to remove the barrels. I highly recommend doing so. And I'd not sink too much money or trouble in to this without rock solid provenance that it is connected to Al Capone.
