While birdshot may not over penetrate drywall good luck with that through heavy clothing.

the beretta 1301 has a very effective gas system. Mine has cycled everything from low recoil HD rounds to my even even lighter reloads (1oz 1145 fps) clay target rounds with no issues.

I have the 1301 tactical, so it has a different barrel then your 1301 comp. Still I'm very confident that yours will not have any issues cycling light recoil defense loads. try it and find out.

Last test I saw low base number 8s went through 4 sheets of drywall and impacted the 5th. Buckshot goes through more than 8 sheets of drywall.
As I said before always test your defense loads. Modern shotguns seem to handle a wide variety of loads.

While birdshot may not over penetrate drywall good luck with that through heavy clothing.

At indoor distances, the guy would have to be wearing a ballistic vest to stop a load of number 8s. You can test that if you want. The buckshot you have is still a high base load it's going to have a lot of recoil and a lot of energy.

Skip the bird shot, while it is far better than nothing, and still lethal and dangerous, it doesn't often penetrate reliably to the depth necessary to involuntary stop an attacker.

The unfortunate reality of projectiles is that any bullet capable of involuntarily stopping an assailant will also penetrate multiple interior walls of the common home.

Everytime I was attacked by "drywall perps" I killed them with 00 buck, followed by 4B. No overpenetration there
You need to realize that with home defense you are willing and ready to KILL to save yourself and your family. There is no second chance.
If you cannot KILL to protect yourself and your family, buy a guard dog.
