Upwards of $500? as in over? I love my remington versamax. I have a tactical and field and I don't see myself replacing them. They actually replaced my benelli m4 and m2.

Good suggestions. Buy used. Go to a range where they rent shotguns or talk to friends who have shotguns to try out.

My friends shoot Benelli, Beretta, Browning, Remington, Weatherby, and Franchi. Most shoot a Benelli. Beretta's work for me and I like the a300.

OP, you're two months too late. ysr_racer had a brand new A300 for sale for $700. You probably could have gotten him down to your range for a couple of 12 packs,

Has anyone mentioned a Beretta A300 yet?

I've only got three of them, but so far so good.

I have Affinity's, SX3's, SA-08's and used to own a 930. All are good shotguns. The A300 and V3 are nice. Between the A300 and V3 for me it would be the one that fits best. I like Beretta and have owned two(3901 and A300) but they don't fit me as well as other brands. My next shotgun will be a V3.

I've heard good things about the TriStar semi's. One thing I like about the SA-08 is how slim they are.

I'll throw the Weatherby SA-08 in again. Mine has been great as long as I run 1300 fps or faster loads. I have a Remington 1100, but I always end up grabbing the SA-08. Slim, light, and I'm not worried about scratches, or wear. Mine is the synthetic stock, and I painted it cammo.....

yup, it was the HMS Hood...

so Mossberg 930 is very low on everyones' list?

Thought that was the HMS Hood. Thanks.
The 930 field shotgun is not low on my list. I like mine a lot. Worked fine for dove last year, same in Idaho for Ruffed Grouse and Huns. No bad issues at the trap range either. I have close to 1700 or so shells of various loads thru it, no problems. I'm thinking that the shooters having issues with a 930 are the tactical models and they're running them hard with heavier rounds. Don't know for sure tho, as I don't shoot like that.

Since it's picky on ammo, it sounds more like a reason not to get an SA-08. The 1100 is probably a better choice and a better gun, even if it gets scratched .

the SA-08 comes with two pistons -- one for heavy loads and one for light loads. Takes a minute to switch it out. The light piston has worked fine for me even on very light loads.
