    Shotgun recommendation

Hey all, I have some money to burn and I was thinking of getting a shotgun. I only have one right now, and don't shoot it much (Mossberg 500). I'm definitely more of a rifle/pistol guy. I was looking at a benelli m4, or an OU. My budget is about 3k, but I don't HAVE to spend it all. Any suggestions? Again, I'm not a big shotgun shooter, I got a custom precision rifle on the way, so that's been my focus as of late. Thanks!

Try first at shooting range and see if you enjoy it or not , try trap , clay shooting ...I found out I am a shotgun gun more than a rifle.
Trap , clay shooting and hunting alot more fun than paper shooting.
    Good luck to you.

I've done them, they are fun, but I feel it's something that I like to do every once in a while. I really just enjoy working up a rifle load and smacking steel at 1000 yards more than anything really. Makes me feel accomplished or something. This is more of a "rounding out" of my collection to make it more balanced haha, which as we all know, is never ending.

If you just want something cool and fun to keep around, the Benelli M4 would be a good choice. With gun laws the way they are now, who knows when they will start targeting semi-auto tactical shotguns, so if you can afford one now, I'll say get it.

Before you spend the money though, try a few rounds of skeet, sporting clays, 5-stand or trap before you decide on the shotgun. You may find clay shooting fun and want a O/U instead.

Look at the Beretta 1301 Comp. You will have a bunch of money left for ammo.

I was looking for an over/under earlier this year and ended up with Browning Citori 725. Honestly couldn't be happier with it.

It really depends on what you're going to use it for. For a general shooter, you can't beat a Beretta A300.

For an o/u try to stick with Browning or Beretta.

The m4 is chock full of awesome! You'd be hard pressed to pick a better semi auto combat shotgun. Do be aware of some things however...

They only come in an 18.5" barrel and there are no longer barrels currently available. If you think you want a longer barrel for hunting or 3 Gun or something, then the m2 might be a better choice. But the m2 is an inertia gun and the m4 is a gas gun. So the m4 will be a slightly softer shooting gun and can handle whatever else you want to add to the gun (lights, side saddles, etc.). If you add too much weight to an inertia gun, it could affect reliability.

Also, the m4 is an imported shotgun which means it's comes from the factory with a 5 round capacity. If you want to swap the mag tube and increase capacity, the gun will be subject to 922R requirements to keep it legal. This means that you will have to replace a total of three specifically named parts with their US counterparts. The point here is that if you want to increase the capacity from 5 to 7 rounds...and most people do...you're looking at having to swap a total of three parts at around $300 give or take. So factor that into your budget and/or when you compare it to other guns.

There are a few other options in semi auto combat shotgun category that you might want to look at in this price range (give or take). The FN SLP Police version comes to mind...there is also a 3 Gun version. And the Remington Versamax in combat and 3 gun configurations. The Versamax is essentially a knockoff of the m4. When the patents ran out on the m4, Remington basically copied the m4's gas system. We also already talked about the m2...which is an excellent gun in it's own right.

Thanks everyone! DROSed a silver pigeon 1 at riflegear today. Was so hard to pick between that and the benelli. But I'm going back for that M4 soon! It was the model without the pistol grip, which I wanted anyways!

Thanks! Strongly considering buying the benelli if it's still there when I pick up the beretta in 10 days haha.
