Does anyone reload 20 ga? I'm thinking about using 700x, win 209 primers, WAA20 wads with STS hulls.

700X is too fast for 20g.

The Hodgon site lists 700x for 20 ga but I'm open to a better powder. Preferably a recipe that uses STS or AA hulls with federal or win 209 primers.

          Interesting anecdote....

There was a time when the reloading books had 20ga reloading data for 700x. I started reloading 20ga years and years ago, and that was the data I used..... still use it today without issue. However, a couple of years ago I acquired a 28ga, and called to ask if there was any reloading data for 700x and 28ga. The person I spoke to said it was too fast for 28ga, and recommended something else. When I told him I was using it for 20ga he was mortified, and disavowed any knowledge that there was ever printed data for 700x and 20ga.

So, something changed along the way. either they reformulated the powder, got more refined test results, or were warned off by the lawyers after some incident.

Not on my site search. Maybe for 3/4oz somewhere else. Years ago Red Dot had been listed for 20g, but no more.

I do load 20g target and field loads. I load 3/4-9 in STS and 7/8-8 in AA. If starting from scratch I might reverse that.

The AAHS hulls generally need a dense powder like 20/28 or a bit shorter wad than the AA/clones.

FWIW, I bought more Win SuperHandicap than I can use. It's very similar (like identical) to Green Dot and International burn rates, but too dense for my 3/4 oz load without significant dishing. Should work well for 3/4oz in AAHS, but too fast for 7/8. I'd let a jug go quite reasonable.

                Interesting.....

Like Jagerdog, I cannot find it when I look at their site. But the screenshot you posted is the exact load I use.

EDIT: Just found it, it is using a Federal plastic hull. There is no data for AA or STS using 700x.

The Fed case is very roomy compared to Rem/AA hulls. The capacity lends itself to a bit faster powder and/or higher ballistic performance. Unlike metallic, impromptu switching of hulls is bad juju. I know you're aware, but some aren't.

I'm the first to say that modern guns are very strong and it takes a lot to hurt them, but I wouldn't want to work outside of current established (SAAMI) criteria.

                      Your son will need a 11 1/2 -12" LOP and your GF about a 13 1/2 LOP ( a guesstimate from where I'm sitting)

One way to approach the one gun for both is to buy a gun that will fit your son and a slip on recoil pad that you slip on and off to get close to your GF.s LOP

If you can make it to Metcalf on the 18th or the 25.... Stop by the field where I'll be teaching the Skeet clinic and I'll take a few minutes to to give you, and them, a better evaluation

Thanks for the offer Feeder, unfortunately I won't be able to make it either day because of work. But I do appreciate the offer.

I'm pretty much set on getting the SA-08 for them to share. Once my car is done getting an oil change I'm headed to BP

BTW I'm still waiting on a Sunday skeet class.

Buying 100 rds of Federal/Winchester at Walmart for $21 is pretty hard to beat in time/cost.

I know what you mean, but I enjoy reloading. To me it's another hobby. I especially like shot shell reloading because you can play around with wads, powders and shot weight.

I also take pride in the fact that I only shoot ammo I make. The only thing I shoot that I can't reload is 22LR.

I bought my SA-08 and A300 today! T minus 11 days and counting.

                                Yes I do....Been using 15.5g of 800x , AA hull, CB1078 , win 209 , 7/8oz
Nothing special about the 800x...bought a bunch when powder was scarce and I'm using it up

If you have any powder used for 12ga field loads....its a good change it can be used for 20ga target
