TR Imports Silver Eagle 20 ga

I posted here in the shotgun section a few months ago about getting shotguns for my 12 year old son and my girlfriend. It looks like I'm going to get my son the Mossberg 510 bantham

I was at Dick's the other day... I know I really hate them too, but I was near one and wanted to look at some shotguns. Anyways, they had a TR Imports 20ga semi auto for around $350. Now I'm sure for that price I'm not getting the best quality shotgun, but I doubt my girl will shoot it more than 6-10 times a year and I really don't want to spend A300 or even 11-87 kind of money for something she might not stick with.

Does anyone here own a TR Imports shotgun and what's your experience with them?

Before anyone mentions the market place or a used 1100, I'll say that I scour the market place daily and I don't see many options in NorCal for what I'm looking for. If only I lived in SoCal...

I have not owned one or even held one. A number of years ago I was interested in them and called the company to see ask a few questions and possibly stop by and look at a couple of shotguns(I live about 30 minutes from them). The guy I spoke to said he was the owner, was arrogant and said they didn't allow visitors. Based on the conversation I decided if I were to own one and ever needed it, their customer service might be lacking. So I went with a Youth SA-08 for my daughter.

In the same price range is the TriStar Raptor. I would be willing to try one based on reviews I've read at Shotgun World.

I started my first child on a Bantam and second on a semi. I regret not starting my first child on a semi.

The SA-08 is an option that I hadn't considered. It's a little more money than I want to spend on my son or girlfriend separately, but I could get it for them to share.

I like that the SA-08 had almost 5 stars after 24 reviews on Bass Pro's website. I also like that it's a known brand.

The Wby SA-08 is an exceptional choice. It comes with two different gas pistons: one for light loads, the other for heavier loads. These take about 1 minute to change. Very simple. Utterly reliable. Hope this helps.

It helps a lot. I'm going to buy one today. It's more than I wanted to spend so they'll have to share it. But I think it's a better option than the TR Imports.

I called Bass Pro, they have 2 in stock. Looks like I'm getting the SA-08 for them and an A300 for myself tomorrow.

You'll be happy with the A300, no feedback on the other one.

A300's are a solid choice. Plenty of feedback on the SA-08's. Excellent reviews. A little searching is all that is required. Both very good guns.

Yeah that's what I'm looking at. I didn't make it to Bass Pro today, hwy17 was a mess. I'm hoping to make there Saturday. They have 2 left in stock right now.

LOP on youth/compact is 12.5"? Correct? And 24" or 26" barrel? Barrel length doesn't matter, just wondering. Good luck.

I'll take lucky over good any day. A week or so after calling TR Imports I went in to Cabela's to buy some hiking boots and of course looked at the used guns. There was a Youth SA-08 that was new but had a small scratch on the forend. I had never heard of the SA-08 but it was a Weatherby and would be under warranty, and the price was fantastic. Come to find out the first ones were wood and subsequent ones were synthetic. I really like the wood. Was so impressed I bought a 20 gauge for myself, a few years later bought a Waterfowler and then last year bought a SA-459 Turkey. My Weatherby's are my least expensive shotguns but if all I had were my Weatherby's it wouldn't bother me at all.
