I was curious what people think of them. I read this Model 1100 review and it seems like a good tool to own. I am just wondering what people think of them

Remington shotguns?

I have had both a Remington 1100 and a 870 Wingmaster since the early 70's. They have both been excellent guns. I have thousands of rounds through each without any issues. Not bad for 2 guns in over 45 years.
If you are in the market for an 1100, or a 870, take a look at the new Anniversary Models. They are a bit more. But they are simply beautiful.
If common sense was so common, why don't liberals possess any? -
Great Hunting guns but not for fighting. They have to be fired from a solid shoulder or they will not cycle. In a fight you don't have that option as you may have to fire on the move, over or around cover or even if you are down and on the ground.
I have an 11-87P that I love to shoot but it lives in my safe and I would never take it to a gun fight. The 11-87P is scheduled to be discontinued in favor of the R12 either this year or next.
Both the 1100 or 11-87 Sporting guns are a great choice for hunting or sport shooting.Last edited by aippi; 01-25-2017, 8:41 AM.JD McGuire, Owner

It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.
You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.
You alone and our own have earned it with...Your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever.
The title is....."United States Marine".

Sorry BillT you are Incorrect. All the inertia has to compact an action spring in the stock which then sends the breech bolt forward and picks up the next round and locks into battery. If not fired from a solid shoulder and the weapon moves backwards there will not be enough energy stored in the action spring to complete the cycling action.
Think of it as limp wresting a 1911. This is a fact of the 1100 and 11-87 and the reason the 11-87P is being discontinued as an LE gun this year.JD McGuire, Owner

I love my 1100.

I added a Remington competition carrier from AI&P Tactical, a Brownell's combat bolt handle, a Wilson Combat one-shot mag extension and a parkerized 18.5" bead-sight, Improved Cyl choke Remington barrel.
I run only full-power shotshells through this one; either 00 buck or slugs. It's my "Texas Tactical" 5-shot semiauto, and it's always fired from a solid shoulder.

Nice explanation, but before you spent so much time on educating and correcting, you might want to review the 1100 specs when you have free time from your so time consuming gunfights.Sorry BillT you are Incorrect. Now you see what your statements worth.

I know what my statement is worth. 36 years of working on these guns. Weeks of sitting in class at the Factory and a lot of trigger time. Each time we began the 11-87 class the Instructor asked the class if any ones department used the 11-87? I never saw a hand go up. Why? Because the are not reliable for defense because of the reason I gave. I love my 11-87 and my 1100 but would not take either of them to a gun fight.
The Only significant difference in the 1100 and the 11-87 is the 11-87 Barrel is Pressure compensated. Thus the prior serial numbering system they started with PC. However the 11-87P barrels are not Pressure Compensated and are designed to function with heavy load. It is common knowledge they are not reliable and not fit for Defense use and thus the reason they are being discontinued this year.
There may be people here that know as much about the guns in question as I do but I doubt many here know more. Sandro, I am unclear how much you know based on your lack of any explanation what so ever and simply posting a Link to Remington web site?
As for educating. That is what forums are for and why people ask questions. The OP received expert advise from me. It would be nice if people know the subject before they reply. So no charge for the Professional Information I have given as anyone that has spoken with me will tell you I have the heart of a Teacher and freely share my expertise whether they are a customer or not.
You can see my 11-87 Police in the below video. It was a used hunk of junk till I parkerized it and completely rebuild it. It is a sweet shooter but I would not fight with it. Don't have to because I have plenty of 870's.

The newer Remington's I like even better, V3 and VersaMax. I'm a hunter though and not qualified to comment on SD shotguns.Comment

What 'specs' are in your link other than barrel length and other, obvious, data?you might want to review the 1100 specs
What in your link, specifically, refutes anything said by aippi?
Just curious. I don't see it..

I have a Versamax that is awesome, i got it for my wife at first because of the reduced recoil but now it is my primary sporting clays gun because i can shoot 2-300 field loads and i am hardly sore. She has also never malfunctioned in any way.BUY AMERICANComment

I don't think anything Remington produces now compares to the 1100 and 870 Wingmaster models. Yes they may have so called, "improved" operating systems. But the 1100 and 870's have stood the test of time for over 50 years. And I don't care for all of that plastic, they can't help themselves putting on so many models. You couldn't give me a Benelli Nova. I had more wood and steel on my guns when I was a 6 year old kid.If common sense was so common, why don't liberals possess any?Comment
