I put one of these on my a300 and it is a huge improvement over the solid rubber one.

I can vouch for the MicroCore. My SP1 Sporting came stock with one, bought a thinner one to get the LOP right. I put one on my A300, it's much more comfortable than the stock rubber pad. With the LOP correct, my felt recoil on the O/U is minimal.

Yes, definitely more comfortable and with the different thicknesses, will allow you to dial in the length of pull (LOP). Having the correct LOP is very important for being accurate and comfortable. The spacers for the butt stock and shims allow for an individualized set up.

Assuming I have the right LOP, I was wondering if the MicroCore pad is that much better than the factory rubber pad (it's not a hard rubber). I'm not sure the MicroCore is worth the additional ~ $50.

If you have this (see link), then I think the Micro Core is worth the $50.
