Its 27 years old and looks like brand new. Beautiful gun. Its a 20ga though so I dont use it very often

whichever one you get, make sure it has the ball bearing barrel lock detent rather than the crimped mag tube lock gizmo. the more expensive express home defense models usually have the better bbl lock system.

This will make buying a second barrel easier since any 30 year old sporting bbl will fit.

I see the newer short barreled HD 870's also come with sling studs standard whereas the models previously had a mag clamp with no arttachment point- make sure you buy new stock just to get the forward sling attach point.

I have two other Wingmasters from the '70s as well, but they have the longer, vent-ribbed barrels.

imho they are better built than the express I have.

I realize that a longer barrel isnt what you want for home defense. I have an 18" for home defense, and a 28" pump and 26" U/O for trap. I was just wondering if you personally have actually shot trap before with a 20" barrel. Just seems to me that the spead would be so open that it'd be hard to hit much

Never had a problem with the 20" barrel, besides the older guys asking what I was doing there.

I shoot skeet/trap all the time at Prado with my 870 18" barrel. No biggie, you'll shoot better than expected if you lead the clay and have some practice. The longer barrel helps for sure but as we know it takes a minute to replace the barrel back and forth to 18" for HD or 26" for hunting or Trap/Skeet.

The 870 is a wonderful shotgun, HD, Hunting, Trap/Skeet, SHTF, it does it all. I highly recommend it.

Well something you could try is visiting local pawn shops. I got my 870 for $250 and it only had 50 shots through it.

That is sweet! I just picked up an older 870 Magnum (pre-Police) from Tabor's. Gotta love those old corncob stocks.
