    Which 870

Wanted to pick up a Remington 870 for a first shotgun. Which model would you guys recomend. Would be used for knocking down clays at the river bar everyonce in awhile and home defense. Not looking to spend a ton on this gun, would like to keep it around $400. I know Big 5 has a few models most people talk highly about but ill probablly order it from a local dealer. Thanks for the help on a topic thats probablly been beaten to death

With what your going to use it for, i would say the 20 inch 8 shot express model. The barrel is short enough for HD, and fine for skeet. Big5 Has it on sale for 350 about 1 time a month!

Youve shot trap/skeet with a 20" barrel? How well does that work

              Nor Cal.. Ukiah...

Later on this year id like to build a dedicated home defense gun. Basically id like to pick up a simple gun that will be ok at doing a few different things but maybe not GREAT at any of them lol

The 870 Police Magnum is really nice also. Little more pricey however.

#25077 is the 7-shot (6+1) model with 18.5" barrel. This is the one I'd recommend if you want more than the nominal 4 rounds in the magazine.

                        Thanks for the advice guys..

How would the short barrell do with knocking down some clays?

Im not looking for a miracle gun just something to play with everyonce in a while. Im thinking with the short barrell maybe ill turn it into a hd gun later and get something better suited for clays later on.

The 20 inch barrel is not that bad for shooting clay, generally speaking, the guys who shoot trap and skeet are using a over/under 25/26'' double barrel, but you often see guys using a pump action 12 gauge, but that long barrel is not ideal for home defense.

I realize that a longer barrel isnt what you want for home defense. I have an 18" for home defense, and a 28" pump and 26" U/O for trap. I was just wondering if you personally have actually shot trap before with a 20" barrel. Just seems to me that the spead would be so open that it'd be hard to hit much
