fair price for new benelli m4?

High guys, looking to pickup an m4 within the next month or so. Just wondering what everyone feels is a good/fair price to pay? I heard that the military is buying up most of them, so if i can find one, i should just pay retail which i believe is $1695.00

thoughts or opinions? Also, how do I go about buying a benelli collaspible stock? I heard they are legal to own if you can find one, but only law enforcement can purchase them?

sorry for such the nooby questions but I don't have much experience outside of 1911's.

    thanks,

    Michael

I spent a while looking for one, and ended up paying $1350 from an out of state dealer (small, in person, won't ship blah blah don't ask). You should be able to find one for somewhere around $1500-$1600 if you look hard enough.

prices go from 1499 to 2199, I paid 1799 a couple of years ago and waited 6 months for it, shop around, and for the collapsible stock check out gunbroker they usually go for around 700 without the buffer and are illegal unless you permanently fix it

Oh really? I was just at a local gun store and they said there is nothing illegal about the collapsible stock. I asked him about the legalities of it and he said it's fine because there is no "detatchable magazine" on a shotgun.

more opinions and info is greatly appreciated. I might just end up building my AR or m14 but shotgun is the most appealing right now.

As of now, $1600 is really quite good for gunbroker. Wait a little longer and things should settle down a tad. Check GB obsessively and you may just find a really good deal (I got mine for $1377...was even able to pay via paypal ).

Oh, and yes, collapsing stocks on the M4 ARE illegal unless you permanently fix it such that it no longer collapses.
CA law says you cannot have BOTH a pistol grip AND a collapsible stock on a semi-auto shotgun. The M4 has a pistol grip on the default fixed stock option AND on the collapsing stock option.

The M4 does have a non-pg stock, but it sure as heck doesn't collapse so it's a moot point.

The person at the gun store has his facts wrong. He is right that the shotgun cannot have a detachable mag, but that's where he stops being correct. That no detachable mag provision is applied in addition to, not instead of the above PG/collapsing stock provision.

            both of the following:
            (A) A folding or telescoping stock.
            (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or
            vertical handgrip.
            (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
            (8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

To answer your question, I have seen Benelli M4s priced from $1500 to $1800 (plus tax and DROS). Good luck with the search. They are hard to find, and when you find them, they are usually expensive (up in the $1800 range).

I've read from a number of sources than the collapsible stock looks really cool, but is not nearly as comfortable to shoot as the fixed stock. A lot of the collapsible stocks you see for sale are being sold by guys who swapped it out with a fixed stock.

+1 Keep the pistol grip, lose the collapsible stock.

I put quite a few rounds downrange with one of the fixed skeleton stock (M1014) models and actually felt it was more comfortable than a regular fixed PG stock on an M1. (and not just because the M4 is softer shooting!)

when I shoulder the m4 with the collapsible stock in half way collapsed mode, it lines my eyes up with the sights perfectly. Too bad it's illegal to have installed in CA.

I bought my M4 in december for 1550.

                            M4

$1550 for the M4 seems like a great price... I keep seeing them closer to the 1700-1800 price range.

Do any of you know where to get a factory 2 round extension for the Benelli M4? How much would it cost?
