browning vs beretta o/u

I have not bought a newish gun in a few years, but when I was shopping for a certain Browning SC model that I wanted as a bird gun, they were all ported in 12 and 20, non-ported in .410 and 28. So I did not buy one because I hate ported barrels. That is not an issue with their field guns. Beretta used to factory port some of their target guns (like my 682), but they seem to have gotten away from that. I dislike the ports on my 682 so much that I bought a new, unported barrel set for it. I don't think either company has done much, if any, porting on their field guns. The majority of brownings do not have porting.Comment

i dont believe they are the same in every category. there has to be advantages and disadvantages. you say ford vs chevy. but ford 150 has lots of better ratings in terms of reliablity towing etc. the chevy volt has sold more in terms of commuter than the focus.
so yes i know what fits me is one i will shoot best, but my question is still the same. which are better in terms of those categories. esp the citori cx vs silver pigeon? which has better wood? locking mechanism, etcComment

Thing is, you're not towing a trailer or buying gas with an o/u. To recap beetle's answer:i dont believe they are the same in every category. there has to be advantages and disadvantages. you say ford vs chevy. but ford 150 has lots of better ratings in terms of reliablity towing etc. the chevy volt has sold more in terms of commuter than the focus.

has better customer service---depends on the distributor
reliability------------------------same, or one of them would be out of business
needs more maintenance------neither should require more than cleaning
locking mechanism-------------both are very durable
maintenance cost--------------patches, solvent, grease and oil will cost the same
better wood/reciever coating--your preference
The short answer---buy both! If you buy one, you'll eventually wish you'd bought the other and so it goes down the O/U shotgun rabbit hole.Comment

You asked a question, and got the same answer from a few different people, yet you still don't believe it?i dont believe they are the same in every category. there has to be advantages and disadvantages. you say ford vs chevy. but ford 150 has lots of better ratings in terms of reliablity towing etc. the chevy volt has sold more in terms of commuter than the focus.

The fact that you're asking the question means you don't know the answer, we do.Comment

Simple answer: Buy the one you can get the best deal on. They will both shoot better than you can, and will outlast you and your kids.Comment

I own both Browning and Beretta shotguns. I don't notice much difference between the two. Not surprising, given the fact that the technology is pretty mature at this point and both companies compete at the same price point. Buy the one that (1) fits you best, (2) looks best according to your personal preference, and (3) fits your budget.Comment

this is not a F150 vs Volt comparison. You are comparing two entry level guns from two well respected companies at a similar price point. Basically the comparison is more like a toyota corolla vs a honda civic.i dont believe they are the same in every category. there has to be advantages and disadvantages. you say ford vs chevy. but ford 150 has lots of better ratings in terms of reliablity towing etc. the chevy volt has sold more in terms of commuter than the focus.

It would be a different story as you go up in price. The higher priced guns have more differentiation -- mechanical triggers vs inertia. Browning's ported barrels vs Beretta's non ported. Beretta's cross lock in the DT11 series. etc etc
The models you are looking at (CX, Silver Pigeon) might have some minute differences, but nothing that makes one inherently superior over the other. Both are good guns, essentially "the same". Buy the one that fits.Comment
