    Clay/skeet gear

Hi. What's the general gear for clay? A shell holder? Vest?

Some use a vest. More skeet and trap guys use a belt pouch in my experience. Local temps can be a factor.

I picked up a shell carrier at bass pro for about $20 and it works just fine. Either way you'll be good to go.

I use a mesh style shooting vest.................Can carry allot more junk that way and still be cool in hot weather, or add a heavy shirt/hoody if it's cold!

I started out with putting shells in the back pockets of my jeans. It worked well enough, but then the OFWGs at the range gave me stink eye. So then I got a little shell holder (http://www.browning.com/products/sho...x-carrier.html). It worked well until I started reloading. Then I got one with a pouch for the empty shells (similar to this: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabel...B&gclsrc=aw.ds) It worked well. I liked it because it let any kind of debris fall through the mesh that stuck on the shells like grass from hitting the ground), but then I wanted a way to have a bottle of water handy while shooting because it's hot at the range, so I got a different pouch that could hold empties (http://www.browning.com/products/sho...ell-pouch.html). It worked well.
But then one day I was shooting with some very good shotgunners and they all had vests. So, I got a vest. I like the vest a lot. I wear a long sleeve Columbia fishing shirt under mine to stay cool and when I have the vest over it, it looks like I'm wearing a dress shirt to shoot skeet. inventorycheap.com has a lot of vests for cheap; they're always sold out, though, so find the UPC, MIN, or product code and put it into slickguns.com and it'll aggregate where it's in stock and for the cheapest.

When I was a kid I didn't have any money so when I went to range and saw everyone with fancy shell pouches on there hips I figured out I could fold the lid back on the box and put it behind me belt and there I was with the box on my hip looking just as fancy as everyone else. Ha ha.

All I did was get a shell pouch for $20 when I first started. Here I am all color coordinated.

Now I bought a vintage skeet vest off ebay for $20, and my shell pouch is leather from shamrock leathers.

I actually run 2 pouches. Shells on the left, empties on the right. Or reverse if shooting an auto/pump.

I use one like this one:

It works well. However, the belt is terrible so I use a stiff gun belt instead.

I used to use a vest, but found I like a pouch better. The one thing I discovered is I needed a pouch that did not hang low from my hips. if it is too low, I struggled to reach shells. I also like a double pouch.

I stopped using the vest because it changed my gun fit and it was hot! Most vests have too large of an arm hole for me and the gun would sometimes get hung up on the fabric when mounting.

I don't expect everything handed to me. Just set it down anywhere. Unknown

+1 for the Allen pouch. Cheap and effective.
