Remember that the rail is the weak link on the m4. If you're going to be running any type of nice/expensive optic, you'll want to replace the factory rail with an "in spec" one.

I have the Scalarworks BOR and Trijicon RMR adjustable with the 6.5 dot and it works very well. Went with this set-up as both products have great reviews and the RMR is very unobtrusive.

Scalarworks BOR just showed up this morning, I'm really impressed, it's incredibly well made. I'll be installing it tonight with the RMR 7moa dual-illum that I got last week, will post an update tonight

Don't have a Trijicon, but I am using a Vortex Venom successfully on my Benelli Supernova tactical. The sight is small enough to work on a pistol but is proving very useful for quick acquisition and has had no issues with recoil. With that in mind, I don't see why the Trijicon wouldn't do so as well?

The Scalarworks looks very interesting indeed. I'd love to mount that to my SuperNova! I wonder if they are considering making a version that will work with the Vortex Venom/Burris Fastfire?

Went with the 4moa JPoint on the M4. Couldn't be happier.

She's all put back together! So far, loving it! The position of the amber dot is even more natural than the factory ghost-rings, which always seemed a hair too low for me. Right off the bat, the amber dot co-witnesses with the stock sights perfectly, no zeroing needed. I'll send some slugs downrange in the next few weeks to verify the zero, but so far I'm LOVING this setup! I slightly miss the larger viewing window of my old cheap RDS, but I don't miss the obscenely large form-factor of it. This mount, and sight, truly look like they belong on this shotgun.

Dot is beautifully lit and perfectly sharp in all lighting - outside in sunlight, inside in lit room, in bathroom with lights off, it doesn't seem to matter, it's always lit. And no batteries Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure:

Why did you go 7moa on a 100 yard slug gun? Seems like smaller dot would be better.

For me, dual-illumination trumped dot size. Did not want battery. 7moa is the smallest dual-illumination dot available on the RMR.

Well, define "straight"

I usually just run regular Remington 1oz/2.75" rifled slugs w/ the factory choke (Modified, I think?), and get like 6" groups @ 100yds. I always considered that pretty "straight", and good enough for hunting. If I need tighter groups than that, I grab something other than my shotgun.

Using both the ghost sights as well as a Vortex Venom red dot on my SuperNova Tactical I've been able to hit a 12" x 12" steel plate at 100 yards standing with reasonable consistency using Fiocchi 7/8 and 1oz 2.75" slugs. That is way more than accurate enough for the needs of my HD shotgun.

I think you'll like it. Unlike most optics on the M4, this setup actually feels like the shotgun was designed to have it from the get go, kind of like a full-length mag tube. There's almost no reason not to have this rail - it's lighter and better-made than the standard one, and doesn't obstruct the iron sights. Only downside is that I lost my beloved sidesaddle shell carrier, but honestly I never used that anyways.

I agree. I had the Mesa tactical rail and attached shell carrier but felt the rail was too tall and obstructed the iron sights and the shell carrier added way too much weight.

Does the RMR help you get on target faster now also?

I've always kept both eyes opening using the irons running it in class but feel a red dot would be even better!

I shoot both-eyes-open as well. I haven't made it to the range yet, so I can't say yet how well it works while shooting. But having used "a" red dot on my M4 before, the concept definitely helps me get on target faster, actually a LOT faster. The rear ring on the ghost rings is so blurry when I use a short stock (I have a skeleton stock pinned in the middle position) that I have trouble finding it to make a sight picture. With this, just put the glowie dot where you want the holes to be, and squeeze.

The sight picture is great w/ both eyes open, the RMR was designed for such use and perfectly applies the dot to your field of vision as if it was a distant laser dot you were seeing with both eyes.
