Standard Manufacturing, DP-12 Pump Shotgun

Hello CGers. My friend just bought a Standard Manufacturing, DP-12 Pump Shotgun and was wondering if anyone has shot it or has experience with it. Was wondering if this could be unreliable like the KSGs and UTAS shotguns. I'm not looking to buy one but just curious about it.

My friend does buy gimmicky firearms but I didn't want to tell him because I didn't know anything about this shotgun. First thought when he mentioned it was "gimmick".

Its been getting decent reviews. The biggest problem with them has been the two barrel, two feed tubes setup that changes the manual of arms. It fires one tube and then the other. So pump, fire, fire. Throws people off. This setup also does weird things as well. For example, load both tubes unevenly, you pull the trigger on an empty tube and it clicks, but if you pull the trigger again, theres another shell in the other chamber so it goes off. Theres a possibility that you might think the gun is empty but its not. Again, something that you can easily solve with training but a little counter-intuitive to me.

There was also an issue of failure to feed while the gun is held vertically but as far as I know, thats been fixed on new models.

Standard Manufacturing is part of Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing which makes and sells pretty high-end shotguns. I've examined a DP-12 up close in a store and I was really impressed with how solid it felt. I definitely think its a step up from UTAS/KSG but I think I will stick with my 590 for now. Not having so much weight up front is nice though. My 590 gets heavy with the extension full loaded. Having that weight closer to my body would definitely help.

FYI, they are coming out with a new mag fed semi in both regular and bullpup configurations. One barrel this time.

That's an obvious one but the reason I ask is in this forum is because friend rarely shoots and only buys gimmicky firearms to collect.

So do you have actual experience with one? I'm curious because one of the defining aspects of the DP-12 is that it has a one piece milled metal receiver. So, I'm curious if you have one that is made out of plastic or if your just full of ****?

Thanks for this. I did find reviews that sounds pretty good, but i always depend on folks in this forum that have first hand experience

Don't rain on his parade, most people don't want others telling them their purchase sucks. And who cares? If he enjoys it and if it works for it, then it's a good shotgun.

I think it can be a nice range toy and if proven to be reliable, a good compact shotgun for HD too. The 2-shot per rack is something to get used to but double-barreled shotguns have been around for a very long time. Users just to have get used to it.

I'm wondering if the shotgun can be modified to fire both barrels with a single trigger pull though? If possible, it could be used like a personal claymore mine if you load it with magnum buckshots. A single trigger pull to send thirty 00 buckshots downrange, yes please (probably not something to do too much....).

I didn't rain on his parade, because I haven't heard anything bad about it, so I can't comment. I only comment if I've heard first hand feedback. He's got some cool stuff. All I know is that this shotgun looks pretty darn b@d@***! However, I'm someone who cares much more about function than just looks, opposite of my friend. If it functions and looks sweet, then that's the best of both worlds.

Toys vs tools. Nothing wrong with toys, just understand which category what you're buying falls into.

Personally I get more enjoyment with an 870 and taking it through a few tactical shotgun classes. And it costs less than buying a DP12 and blasting zombie targets at an indoor public range. Probably more rewarding, too.

Agreed with both points. He had new KSG and UTAS and got rid of them because it didn't function properly with snap caps...never actually shot them. I just didn't want him to have another shotgun that was a "gimmick".

Not a good idea. More than one shot per trigger pull would make it a "machine gun."

My taste runs much more to the traditional look and proven function. But I have to say this thing is appealing. Unbelievable firepower in a compact package. You could load the magazine tubes differently so you would be prepared for anything.

If it proves reliable over the next fifty years and I am still alive then, I'm buying one for sure! In the meantime, I'd love to hear from someone who has actually shot one. OP, buy some doughnuts and make your friend take you, and the DP-12, to the range. Then come back and tell us about it!
