    Mossberg 590A1 safety screw...

I want to replace my Mossberg 590A1 safety one-direction screw with a normal 2-direction screw. Does anyone know the size of that screw? Will a normal hardware store screw fit OK? Or is it a specialty item with special threads or something?

Good tips for getting it out...
    • Break of the plastic safety and then use pliers on the screw - not so easy with metal safety
    • Lightly hammer an indentation in the screw and then use a regular screw driver
    • Use a fat screwdriver

    It's a 6-32 screw.

I just placed a piece of duct tape over the screw head and pressed pretty hard while turning. Came right off.

thx 4x4Tooper do you happen to know how long it is?

I will try the tape method when I give it a go. Maybe painters tape to reduce residue.

I tried masking tape first and the head just just cut right through.

Now for a laugh I'll tell you why I needed to install a new safety and trigger group on mine. I wanted the hogue short lop stock, but didn't have the right stock screw, ended up with one too long, just kept torquing it until "pop" busted the safety and safety bar on the trigger group. My first "I'm not a gunsmith moment."

That is always a "make your heart skip" moment, where you pray to the gun gods that it was not as bad as it seemed.

I used a button head allen screw in a ProMag safety. It was a little big so I shaved it down by chucking it in a drill and using a file to shave off a little of the edges so it dropped into the safeties recess.
