Just a dud shell or should I worry?

I have a silver pigeon I and after 5,000 rounds of Walmart Value Pac, Cabela, Rio, Winchester value pac shells, I finally had one misfire. It dimpled the shell so I didn't put the shell back in but rather I put in a spare and continued to shoot 75 plus rounds with no problem. I purchased the gun new in 2014(Sept) and wipe it down after every outing. I run a bore snake through the barrels and I put light great on every part that rubs like you should. I took the ejectors off a couple of months ago and cleaned those and put them back on. I think I finally hit a bad Federal shell that didn't go bang. I can't complain because after thousands of Federal shells from Walmart, I finally got one that didn't go boom. Just wanted to see if others think I can chalk this up to a dud shell.

1 out of 5000 is a pretty low failure rate. And you kept on going for 75 rounds more afterwards. Sounds like nothing to worry about.

Based on the story and history of the gun, at this point I'd say bad primer - it happens.

Probably a dud shell. I have had one or two over the years from the cheap Walmart deals (currently at $21 for 100).

Gun worked fine, shell did not. Shell issue

More importantly, did you remember to be safe and kept the gun pointed downrange and waited at least 30 second before opening the action?

Yes. Gun was kept pointed down range. I didn't wait 30 seconds but the gun was pointed down range. At least I didn't try to cheap out and reshoot it.

When it happens again to you, wait to make sure you don't have a hang fire. A hang fire is when the shell does not go off when the primer is stuck but shortly after.

Will do. 30 seconds. I think the adrenaline gets going and I'm thinking "hell, gotta fix it, regroup, break the next one". I need to stop, wait 30 seconds, then open.

What do you think would happen besides a loud bang and the wad with lead shot leaving the muzzle?

Its a safety procedure ....now you have the info to be safer next time. Have fun and alway try to break'em all, one clay at a time.

I personally don't think it would have fired. That's why I didn't bother trying. It had the dimple in the cap and looked like the dimple of a shell that's been fired. I feel better about the situation now. I put snap caps in the barrels and fire after cleaning them after every outing.

Most likely a shell with bad primer. I usually just pop them back into the shotgun and try one more time, most of them will fire the 2nd time around but I did have 1 shell from Estate (those white boxes ones from France, not the USA ones) that will not fire after 2 tries. The primer was hit but simply didn't go off, I tossed it.
