Buy the best o/u you can afford, because you're going to end up with a bunch of shotguns at some point in your life anyway.

I didn't start out with 12 shotguns, but I've got that many now, and I'm glad they're all quality guns.

Let me know when you find a decent used Citori (12 ga) for slightly over $1k. I am in the market and every one I have seen for the past 6 months is 2x that.

I bought a Stoeger Condor Field combo (12g & 20g) as my first shotgun. Never shouldered it, and just bought it because I didn't know any better and I thought O/U looked cool and maybe my wife could use the 20g.

I fired a few shells out of a Browning that Thefeeder brought to a NorCal Skeet clinic last year and loved it. It felt slim, yet solid, and easy to wield, whereas my Stoeger is like a log. If I had the funds, I'd trade up in a heartbeat. But, my next shotgun will likely be a semi auto.

All three of the models listed in the article are discontinued. It can be tough to find parts for product that is no longer made. Just a consideration.

The best entry level O/U on the market right now is the Weatherby Orion. You can usually find them in the $900-$1,000 range in stores. I've put about 2,500 rounds through one, and I love it. It fits me well, which is always very important. It's also the best looking O/U in that price range. Weatherby has always made or imported nice stuff, and they're one of the last gun companies in CA, so I like to support them on those grounds.

I used to shoot a Beretta 686, and I loved it. I've never owned a Citori, but I'm am a lifelong Browning fan, so I wouldn't think twice about buying one. If you can find a nice, used 686 or Citori for under $1,000, which is harder than a lot of other posters have let on, then that's a great option.

Stoeger has been brought up several times, but I would steer clear. They're some of the biggest POS O/Us that I've ever laid hands on.

Keep in mind Browning shotguns and Beretta shotguns fit very differently. Most times if one fits, the other one won't.

Brownings fit me like a glove, Berettas beat the hell out of me.

My nephew has a Stoeger and its a POS. Spent rounds stick in the chamber, its very rough and not fitted together well.

How do gunbroker listings work?
I see that there are some listings for no reserve; and nobody ever bids- so couldn't I just bid with the 15 minute rule and *probably* get a gun for very, very cheap? Or do bidders come out of the woodwork once the 15 rule gets active?

OP, we are pretty much in the same boat. I get my A300 out of jail next week.

I really tried to find a budget o/u, but I just wasn't feeling the 'Made in Turkey" love.

I'm shooting the A300 until I can afford a DT11.

can't say I'd go out of my way for one here but I did buy these in Antalya while deployed there..

special ordered that o/u and was having tea at the shop when the bicycle courier rode up with my shipment from Istanbul..

yep, I set my alarm if necessary and have gunbroker installed everywhere I need it to never miss an auction when I'm bidding..

it's similar to ebay and other auction sites, some sellers are awesome and some are dicks..

I've had really good luck and good experiences but I have good manners, self control, and humble myself when necessary..

for a better idea of actual value, go to completed auctions tab in advanced search [must be logged in]

no sort for sold so have weed through manually and open auctions with bids to see if they sold..

also sucks they only store auctions for 90 days so only recent history available..

my preference is similar to posted above..

find a good deal on a used, low mileage, older model that was made well in its day, enjoy for years and pass it down when you're through..

My buddy had three of them, because they kept breaking. But he shoots a lot. He bought a Beretta and hasn't had any issues since.

You get what you pay for.
