What is rattling inside my Citori Receiver?

With the safety off, it sounds like there is a part that is really loose.
With the safety on, the rattle is still there, but it is much quieter.

Regardless of which barrel is selected, the sound is the same.

    Any ideas/suggestions?

Yes, take it to a gunsmith. Something's wrong.

It's probably the inertia block, but I'd have a look to be sure.

Sounds like you snapped a firing pin to me, that's what made mine rattle

This would cause a rattle, but it wouldn't change when the safety is changed from off to on...Would it?

If you know how to take of the stock, you might be able to see what's loose. But even then are you in a position to fix it correctly?

I did take the stock off (right after being advised to take it to a gunsmith, which isn't quite the advise I was looking for, but I guess you get what you pay for) and it is the inertia block.

Not sure if there is a way to tighten it up, if the part that is out of spec or that's just the way it is.

I'll just live with it for now......

The reason I suggested to take it to a gunsmith, is most guys don't have the skills or tools to take off the butt stock, let alone fix whatever they find.

I figured if you had the skills and tools you wouldn't be asking us.

My 525 probably has 20 or 30 thousand rounds thru it, and nothing rattles. Something is wrong with yours. What you choose to do about it, is your call.

The inertia block should move freely, but shouldn't rattle.

What model Citori do you have?

Do you know if this gun was ever used with subgauge tubes? If so, it had to have work done to function with the light recoil of a 410.

It's a 410 and is shown in this post (no model number like 425, 525, etc.).

I didn't notice the rattle when I got it. It looked new and unfired. I've put about 8 boxes of shells through it.

too vague to even touch. it could be so many things loose in there.

but just so im not completely useless to you, is it a rattle sound or a jiggle sound? start with the stock screw, that usually backs off after so many rounds.

While the 12's are different, the 20,28, and 410's all share the same fire control components. What additional work would have been done?
OP check for rust/debris/crud in the spring that rides in the top of the trigger, attached to the part called the connector which connects the trigger to the inertia block.

Ducitis, did you read through the thread? It's not the stock screw. It seems to be the inertia block.

I didn't think jiggle was a sound. Jello jiggles. Jelly jiggles (must be jelly cuz jam don't shake like).

                              I've got the stock off.
It looks clean inside the receiver.

There seems to be a lot of side to side play at the rear of the inertia block where it attaches to the link, which attaches to the receiver.
