Need help with Mossberg 500 please

Hi everyone. I bought my first shotgun. It is a used Mossberg 500. I finally got out to shoot it and I have to pull the trigger 2 or 3 times before it will actually fire. I haven't tried to break it down or anything yet, figured I would ask for some advice first. Also, I live in Fresno if you guys could recommend a good shop to have work done. Thanks for the info

Do you operate the slide vigorously?
You have to rack it all the way back firmly to cock the hammer.

However, my guess is that the action is full of crud.
Breaking it down to the major part assemblies is not too hard.
I would break it down and spray out the trigger group assembly with CLP or other gun safe cleaning spray before taking it to a smith.

Unload the firearm... then check again...

When you run the gun dry, does the same thing happen?

Years back the 590 with the sure fire forend had the same issue... I forget the fix where you needed to remove some material from the forend to get the action to lock up and the firearm to fire....


What you want to do is to diagnose what is causing the hand up....

If the trigger/ firing pin clicks 100% while unloaded, that is a different symptom than if if does not work with ammo 100%.

With it unloaded, if it does not fire, if you move the safety 1-2 times, does it then fire?

I would call mossberg technical support before going to a gunsmith.

yes I tried racking it vigorously. Didn't help. I'll google the breakdown and see how it goes. Thanks

Excellent advice. I have two Mossberg 500's. They are incredibly reliable. They are very easy to dissassemble. give her a thorough cleaning and then see if it works unloaded.

it fires every time I pull the trigger when unloaded. I'll work on getting the picture uploaded
