930 SPX broken bolt assembly

This Mossberg 930 SPX has about 800 rounds through it and had been nearly flawless until the last 100. It started to have many FTEs/ stovepipe issues. I had only cleaned it according to the manual which does not cover removing the gas piston rings for cleaning. I found the video that Jerry Miculek did on servicing the 930 and did as he said. I found the piston rings to have plenty of carbon build up. With high hopes I took the gun out to shoot and couldn't hardly string two shots together without a FTE. After only 20 shells or so I packed it up in disgust complete with a spent shell in the chamber and a bolt that wouldn't budge. Here is what I found when I disassembled it today.

Well the good news is this happened at the range and not while you were trying to defend your home.

Yes, Mossberg was called. I'm just trying to find a box to ship it in. I am pretty bummed with this 930. The first day I took it out I ran nearly 400 rounds through it with only a couple of miss feeds early on. I was suckered in with all the glowing reviews that it had when it was introduced. As I recall it even won a shotgun of the year in 2009 http://www.ammoland.com/2009/08/moss...#axzz3pioBMhG9. I will never buy another firearm until the design has been out a few years and has developed a great reputation. I went through the same issues with my two M&P pistols. At least S&W has got those guns dialed in now.

You have to clean the piston as part of regular maintenance. Also lightly polishing the piston housing with Mothers mag wheel polish will ensure no FTF with any type of ammo.
