    .410 Skeet Recommendations

I've shot skeet with a 12 and 20 and now I have the bug to try .410.
Would like to try and keep the cost under $2K

What would you recommend and why?

    Thanks for your help.

    ><

    Recommendations:

One that fits you well -- goes without say'n
Quality used gun in great condition---better value for the money
If reloading, O/U ---- eliminates cycling/ feeding issues

Choke tubes----you will need to find a choke that works best. SK is not always the best for a 410....I use MOD for Skeet, it patterned the best

Gun weight close to your 12 and 20---too whippy, takes a lot to get used to. Add weight if needed to your gun

The Big----get to a pattern board and test, test ,test....the 410 is a finicky little buger that will send you insane until you find a good choke/choke tube brand /load combo that patterns good.

Edit---No recommendations on which gun----I have no clue what you would like as far as comfort and fit.

What he said... And I would add:

Skeet chokes are not always skeet chokes, you need to have them measured. For example, Win M42's skeet chokes measure out to be Mod, that's just the way Winchester made them.

I would go with a Browning 425... But that's just me

If you have a 12 or 20 that you like, get a set of tubes for it.
It will add some weight to it, but, the gun will fit the same and you can easily switch back.

On the other hand, don't do it, it's addicting and expensive...if you don't reload

PS: I use a Browning GTI with Briley tubes, 12ga with 20, 28 and .410 tubes. I bought the whole set for $2300, including an Americase.
PPS: I live near and work in the SFV, If you want to try My Browning out send me a PM.

I'd forget the .410 and look instead for a 28 ga.

I agree with the tubes by Briley or Kolar, both very good quality. All of the gauges, plus 410 bore.
Don't buy the 'Skeeter Tubes' they may okay, but just okay IMO.
As stated, they will add a little weight to the gun, but not too much, I actually found that it helped in the swing slightly.
Briley tubes last time I checked a cuppla years ago, were in the $1300 range for the generic ones. Closer to $1600 for the ones built for your gun and lighter titanium.
Had my set since 2005 and without issue so far.
Don't feel like shooting 20, shoot 28, or 410, what ever ammo you have most of can be used. The only draw back that I have experienced is with some of the steel bases factory ammo, it sometimes stucks and the ejector will want to eject the entire tube....not a good thing.
410 skeet shooting is the most fun one can have....standing up anyway.

I have a mossberg 500 in .410, lots of fun at the range. Probably a less quality then you're looking for. Only bummer is ammo cost, buy quality ammo, then sell the spent hulls.

I like AA's, get them when they are on rebate, sell the spent shells and you have a case for around $60.

In the last week, I have made some great deals here on Calguns.
I bought a Mossberg 500 and will be picking it up a week from Saturday.
I also bought a near new (can't see any wear marks) .410 Reloader.
I will be using the Mossberg until I figure out where I am going with .410.

How much do you get for the once fired hulls?

How often does Winchester offer a rebate?

Winchester usually has rebates going once or twice a year in the AA's. 25 cents per hull for .410.

Wow! That is $6.25/box of empty hulls. At that rate, I would just buy factory ammo and use those for reloading.

Oops meant, 10 cents per. $25 for a case of 250. Math plus beer equals bad.
