    New Benelli M4 range report

Took the new M4 to Angeles today. I'm pleased to report it cycled a variety of shells without a hiccup. Probably went through about 70 rounds. With Federal Tactical 00 with FLITECONTROL, I could easily hit 8" metal silhouettes offhand at 50 yards and sometimes 75 yards. Seemed like it spread out too much or lost too much oomph at 100 yards, I couldn't hear it hitting at that range and could see the pellets hitting the dirt around it. The Federal 00's are known for having the tightest groupings but they are slightly longer than other 2.75" shells. I can only fit 4 in the magazine tube. I will try some Hornady's as they are shorter and reportedly fit 5 in the tube for 5+1+1. Oh yeah, I also tried some 3" 00 and could noticeably feel the difference in recoil.

I bench rested it for 100 yards with some Winchester Super X Hollow Point Rifled Slugs and could hit the metal silhouette almost every time. Not bad for no optics and the first time for me shooting slugs. I'll try it with some Federal Tactical slugs when I get my hands on some.

The gun is very easy to break down and clean for a semiauto shottie. Much easier than my Dad's Remington 1100. Overall I'm very pleased even though I spent a fortune for this thing. I figured it being semiauto and having a pistol grip would make it a future target for the Obammunists. It's my new go-to-gun for home defense. Here's some pics:

Nice! I had the opportunity to shoot one yesterday and it is a fantastic piece of engineering. Congrats.

Does that gun have a choke? If it does, what size choke? Did it work ok with the slugs and the choke it came with, if one came with it?

It came with one choke and a wrench. Apparently they used to come with 3 chokes but lately only come with one. I believe it comes with a modified choke. Seems to be a good compromise, works well with 00, slugs, etc.

Thanks. I shot an M1 and liked it. Maybe I should be looking at an M4!

Yeah, you should probably pick one up before semiauto shotties are banned. They don't make the M1 anymore, but they still make the M2 which is almost the same thing.

Great range report! We were also there yesterday on the pistol side.

Nice gun. If you don't mind, how much did you get it for?

Black Majik, oh yeah, what were you shooting? I just had my M4 and Sig 220ST.

Nineteen, I paid $1599 for it. Called all the Benelli dealers in California and none had it or knew when they'd get more. So I finally had it mailed from Florida, from here: http://www.shootersjax.com/benellim4...alshotgun.aspx

I just picked up my M4...I can fit five 2.75" shell into the magazine and they are federal tactical 00 buck in the flight control wad. You can also ghost load one into the shell carrier

Hmm, that's weird! I can only fit four of the Federal 00 and slugs. I can fit 5 birdshot though. If you check this pictures, it shows the Federal being longer than the others:

Someone else also says in the thread that he can fit more of the Hornady's (http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/show...hlight=hornady)

                        5+1+1 FTW!

                        Ghost load it.

                        Or 7+1+1 is even better.

I am using federal 9 Pellet 00 buckshot in a flight control wad (this is my duty ammo). I just put 7 rounds in the gun....I swear it works.

Some guy listed an M1 for sale on ARFCOM, and I was first to say "I'll take it." Dude doesn't want to ship to CA, however. Said it was the "jackasses" at his local shop that wouldn't do it, so I quickly googled three other gun shops in his area for him. Never heard back.

I'm gonna get my Benelli fix sooner or later, man....

Subsolar, if you're going to ASR sometime Sunday in January, can you PM me or Black Majik? We're there almost every Sunday. I'd like to take a look at an M4 in person, if possible.
