I am in the market for another pump shotgun. I am looking for one that can be easliy customized (stock, tac light, scope, etc.). That being said I am looking for one that offers the most available aftermarket parts as well as being a solid performer. Thanks for the info. Just in case you couldn't tell......I am new to the forum.

If you go the pistol grip route, 870. The 500's safety is on the top of the receiver and impossible to move without taking your hand off the grip."If a man hasn't found something worth dying for, he isn't fit to live." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Take your pick:
*Mossberg 590, 590A1 20" - Has a full length 8+1 mag tube, bayonet lug. The A1 is a tank, very heavy wall barrel, metal trigger guard and safety, very heavy shotgun. The 590 is a model 500 with a different style barrel and mag tube. All parts and accessories will interchange but the barrels.
*Mossber 590A1 18.5" bbl 5+1 cap - My favorite of the 590 shotguns. It is more compact and lighter weight, heavy barrel, metal trigger guard and safety. Moss 835 & 500 breacher barrels will fit. Can accept a tube extension. Can't fire 3.5" shells out of a 835 barrel if you installed one, only up to 3" shells.
*Mossberg 500 - Low cost well made. It has a closed mag tube. can't accept a tube ext. plenty of parts and barrels available.
*Mossberg 500 Tactical Breacher - It's a better 500 because it is like the 590A1 18.5" bbl shotgun. Has a 590A1 style heavy profile barrel with a welded on breacher break, 835 barrels and 590A1 18.5" barrels and tube extension will interchange. Can't fire 3.5" shells out of a 835 barrel if you installed one, only up to 3" shells.
*Remington 870 Express with factory tube extension - "Best Buy" of the tactical 870 shotguns. The new model has a 18.5" heavier barrel, no mag tube dimples to drill out, detent on the barrel ring and comes with a high quality extra power mag tube spring.
*Used 870P or Wingmaster - Look for a trade in or check pawn shops. Check it over good before you buy. Would make an excellent lower cost 870 base gun to customize.
*Norinco 982 - well made, low cost, 982 has nice ghost ring sights. It is a 870 style shotgun and 870 accessories and parts fit
*H&R Pardner Protector - low cost, well made, steel receiver built like a tank. It's a 870 style shotgun and 870 parts and accessories will fit.

MAX100,
The "new" 870s have thicker barrel profile and no more dimples?"1911 mag, twinkie, twinkie, cupcake, primary weapon mag"

Model 25077 870 Express with the new longer forend that comes with a factory tube extension doesn't have mag tube dimples. If it did the tube extension wouldn't work. It also has the detent on the barrel ring to keep the extension from loosening and has a 18.5" heavier barrel. The Speedfeed LE forends need a little modifying to work with the larger diameter barrel. I don't know about the barrel on the new standard Express HD because I haven't seen one.The "new" 870s have thicker barrel profile and no more dimples?
This is the Model 25077 Express I am referring to. The factory tube extension has been replace with one of my 7+1 tubes.

We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.
