Yeah......you probably need a new recoil and action spring, as well as a new friction ring for that A5. Also, make sure you are setting up your friction pieces correctly. They should be set up for heavy loads unless you are shooting cheap birdshot.

Midwest Gun Works carries the springs/friction pieces in a kit.

I would bet that some new springs would tame that recoil and make it shoot like new.

I have three Belgian A5s and every one of them had worn out springs when I bought them.

Thanks for the tip on the springs, I'll check it out when I get home.

Had the opportunity to check out and handle a ton of shotguns to day at a big box store on my way to Colorado. The Beretta A300 was nice. Really liked the Francii Affinity but not a gas gun. Could also be had for a very good price if you didn't want the hard case and all the chokes.

The VersaMax, Maxus, Silver and SX3, 930 and SA-08 are known as light recoiling shotguns, pretty much in the order listed.
I own or have owned all of the above except for the VersaMax. I have shot one on several occasions. The gorilla in the room is the Beretta A300 Outlander. I purchased one back in January and perceived recoil was stouter than the shotguns I've mentioned. The 1100 and 1187 have deserved reputations for being light kickers but have non compensating gas systems.

FABARM has a new field auto, the L4S that is lightweight and low recoil. I've had one for two months and would have listed it but haven't shot it with heavy loads yet.

The new A5 is an inertia gun. Haven't shot one but from what I can gather recoil is pretty harsh comparatively. I do have some inertia shotguns, a Vinci and a couple of Affinitys. While I like them they do kick harder than my gas guns which is to be expected. The Ethos is the harshest recoiling semi I've ever shot.

Before anyone flames me for not saying their favorite gun is the best, my statements are based on perceived recoil and I've personally shot all of the mentioned shotguns but one. Fit does affect felt recoil so YMMV.

I was shooting a Belgian made Auto 5 up until this year as well. Kind of ironic. I ended up with a Beretta a300 outlander for my field gun. It's a nice shooting shotgun.

I purchased an A300 at Dicks, they had it for a really good price. I get to pick it up Wed after my 10 day Calif wait.
