They may have sent you the wrong springs, but you can still make them work by simply cutting them to the correct length. I would cut them a little longer than the correct length though. It's always better to cut too long than too short. If you need to cut more you always can. But you can never add back onto the spring. So err on the side of being too long than too short.

Shotgun shells are not all the same length. Buckshot shells are usually always longer than birdshot shells. So the mag tube will hold less buckshot than birdshot even though they both say 2 3/4" on the package. Measure them with a ruler and you'll see what I mean.

Mossberg probably sent you their generic mag spring, so feel free to trim it to length. A k1dude mentioned trim carefully.

2 3/4" is the length the shells can't exceed AFTER firing. So as long as they meet that parameter, exactly how the various manufacturers go about it is totally up to them.

I escalated my concern to their customer service manager, understanding I was getting nowhere with their representatives or department lead. Their customer service manager called and we spoke for 10 minutes. He was going to speak with his engineers and would call me back.

I received a call back and here is what occurred. I purchased my new 930SPX in 2011, but never really “played” with the shotgun. Their service manager advised me that in the early stages, their 930SPX had magazine tube issues. They responded to those issues with an upgraded magazine tube, which required a new magazine spring design.

Their upgraded magazine tube springs are useless in my 930SPX because I don’t have the upgraded magazine tube. The magazine tube spring that came with my shotgun is no longer in production. Their customer service manager issued a FedEx label and I shipped by shotgun yesterday. They are going to install the magazine tube upgrade free of charge.

I made it clear that his department had mentioned that their current magazine tube spring had “always been the spring” in their 930SPX shotguns, and perhaps the magazine spring that came in my shotgun was the wrong spring. He apologized and said he would advise his department of what occurred with their 930SPX magazine springs.

FYI… for anyone else experiencing these issues

Yeah, I have an SPX that I am selling but I never really counted how many rounds it held.

Hmmm, I may have the older model too...

It looks like they are sending you the spring from the JM which has a 10 shot capacity, and the longer spring. They are clearly not understanding the difference between the SPX, and the JM model.

Are the shells getting caught up where the internal mag tube meets the extension?

Can you send in the factory mag tube & extension and get the new model shipped to you?

As other have said, a 2 3/4" shell is 2 3/4" when the petals are open after firing.

This is the critical dimension as the petals can get stuck in the forcing cone. You can chamber a 3" in many 2 3/4" chambers. It might lock up the gun and will definitely cause catastrophic problems.

S&B has a flat crimp at the end of the shell and a piece of paper at the end. So the S&B rounds are generally 2 3/4" full and fired.

Can you unscrew the mag tube from the gun and reassemble to verify the the mag tube and extension do not have a lip that prevents the shells rim from going past?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
              (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

                  I appreciate all the responses.
In answering to a poster’s questions: The shotgun functioned perfectly fine with certain shotgun shells. Even though the magazine tube’s capacity was seven rounds, I was only able to fit six rounds of Federal Buckshot. I was able to fit seven rounds of buckshot for other manufactures. I then installed an updated magazine tube spring and it would only allow five rounds in the magazine tube.

And despite these concerns, this must be pretty popular shotgun. Shooter's Warehouse in Rancho Cordova had 54 in stock late Saturday, and today they are all gone...
