The 870 Security Model at Big5

I picked mine up today, so thought I would post some of my initial thoughts on the gun.

First off, the model is listed as Model 870 Express Synthetic Pump Action Shotgun. 20" BBL. 12 GA. BS CYL Bore with 3 shot Extension.

    It is model # 26503

    Some of my observations:

    1) This gun does not have the ISS safety (with the J key, as described in the manual). Just the push button safety. I understand this is a good thing, as I've heard that the ISS can sometimes be activated unintentionaly.

    2) The receiver is marked as Remington 870. No mention of express or magnum (although the serial number ends with a M)

    3) This has the orange colored follower, which is nice, as it makes it easy to tell if the mag is empty.

    4) The mag extension hangs out maybe 1/2" over the barrel.

    5) Barrel is marked as 12 ga, 2 3/4" or 3"

Overall, very solidly built. Looks great in the black synthetic. Can't wait to try it out tomorrow.

Hope this is informative. I'll update this post tomorrow after I get a chance to shoot it.

      Good pictures . Big 5 doesn't show close-ups.

I bought the same model not from Big 5 but from a local gun store. Its a solid shooter.

How much are those going for during the regular sales(as opposed to Black Friday sales)?

That's a polymer trigger guard, or metal?
From Sacramento, Calif. My wife gave me six slots for weapons. As of 3/23/10, I'm thinking: CZ 75 BD in 9 mm, Glock 19, a FS2000, a Springfield M1A (Standard), Marlin 336 in .30-30, and a CZ 452 bolt-action .22-caliber rifle.

I got it for $299, after a $30 mail in rebate (i.e., in store price was $329).

                Polymer.

One question, don't know if anyone knows the answer:

I heard that newer shotguns come with the remington supercell recoil pad. I can't tell if this is the case on this gun or not. Does anyone know if these come with the supercell or not?

                Thanks!

Im not a fan of the new furniture Remington puts on there 870s. Either than that, you have yourself a good shotgun.

The recoil pad would say supercell on it. My guess is that you just have the original pad.

I went out to Insight this afternoon, and shot 50 rounds through the shotgun.

                      Ouch, my shoulder hurts!!!!!

A lot of fun though. This is the first time I've shot a gun in probably over 20 years.

Had absolutely no problems with the gun. You need to be firm when pumping for the shells to chamber correctly. Everything worked correctly, and smoothly, but it has one hell of a kick.

I noticed I was shooting high, I suspect this was due to the recoil?

I'm going to have to look into recoil pads, especially if my wife will try to shoot it. Any suggestions?

do yourself a favor and get a Knoxx SpecOps on there. I have the same shotgun with the Knoxx Stock and I can shoot 50+ rounds all day long with no soreness. It soaks up a lot of the recoil in the shotgun.

I pick mine up tomorrow as well. Already got my SpecOps stock so I'm raring to go.
Question, do these come with a gun lock or do i need to buy one when I pick it up?

Gun lock in box but won't work as soon as you put on the Knoxx due to clearance issues.

I have never had any problems with my 870. One of the first things I did was put a larger safety with a round head on it for posotive operation in low light conditions.
