590a1 racking

so I have 2 590a1 shotguns, one racks super smooth, like butter. The other is completely functional, however, about halfway racking there is a pause like its getting caught on something. I think it might be the elevator, but am not sure. Anyone have any advice on troubleshooting, improving this?

After looking at the shotgun closer I am more certain it is the elevator arm. When racking, on the outside of the reciever the there is a gap and movement at the pinhole locations where the elevator locks in. Seems like the elevator arms are probably bent a little too far inward, and possibly unevenly. Anyone else ever have this problem?

My guess is this occurred during a previous dissassembly (before I got it). I'm going to try bending it back in place tonight, any advice/warning before I do so?

anyway I disassembled the 590a1, it doesn't appear that anything is broken, but the finish is worn away on part of the bolt and elevator. it looks like the elevator may be slightly bent and twisted on one of the arms. if I cant bend it back I might try to replace it.

Call Mossberg. Tell them issue. They likely send you new part.

I had something like that happen. One of the two bolt stops was bent a bit too far out (like 1/16") and hitting the slide arms. There was unusual wear on the contact points, and feeding suffered.

a few minutes with a vice and some muscle-work fixed it right up.

You are on the right track in my estimation. I had a 500 with a bowed/sprung elevator leg. A little gentle pressure followed by reassembly and test, followed by disassembly and additional pressure, etc. resulted in a "fix" that smoothed it up.

thought I would update this. The vice wasn't able to fix the problem, the bend had a slight twist that I wasn't able to correct.

However after a few emails, and a call to Mossberg I have to say they have excellent customer service and are sending me a new elevator!
