I converted my s12 and I love it, I to have shot trap and skeet with it and I didn't get bad looks, I got "hey can I try"

10 round mags are ridiculous long, I'm thinking of selling the 10s to get more 8s

My converted and customized IZ109 that I did a couple of years back. Replacing the original gas plug with a 6 position plug, and polishing the action (I had Pauly's GlassBolt work done) will eliminate the problems with cycling when using low pressure ammo. I also got hold of some original Russian military shotgun optics. I probably have about $1500 wrapped up in it the way it sits. It was more a fun project than anything.

Hard pressed to convince me to get a Saiga vs VEPR...

I paid $1150 for the saiga/ arsenal conversion, added an ergo ak grip eotech xps and a good mount. $1700 ish in it

I must have misunderstood the shotguns flowchart, I thought semiauto shotguns with mags (BB or not) were illegal. Seeing that the VEPR 12 and Saiga 12 are CA legal with just a BB changes everything...

That atlantic price for the VEPR 12 is making me feel sick. Cant believe Im going to miss that

The Siaga 12 is CA legal w/a BB and FIXED STOCK. Versions w/ folding or collapsible stocks are NOT. Same applies to VEPR. This is so even though ARs w/a BB & folding or collapsible stock ate legal. The contradiction in the law makes no sense but that's the way it is.

True story, logic is not CA lawmakers strong point.

The folding stock model is the one i'd try and find. They weld it shut with a small tack weld, and if you ever move you can easily dremel the weld away in a minute or two.

exactly... just get that one and throw on a bb before shipment and it's all good!

The Vepr 12 Blows the Saiga out of the water so much that we stopped selling the Saiga shotguns .

Saigas were banned last year from import as part of the sanctions on Russia. Don't know if they found a loophole to import again or its the last ones left until the sanctions are removed. You can get the TAC 47 auto gas regulator to cycle all loads without adjustment. Vepr is great.

Have both and love them.

Great thread - glad I found it

I just got a Saiga 12 from a buddy that owed me some money, and I'm just waiting for him to get the mag lock installed and transfer to me (from out of state). Its completely stock (year 2000 manufacture). I've been looking into conversion kits but now that I see the price and features of the VEPR, I'm wondering if I'm better off just selling this one for cash and putting that into one of the VEPRs thats already setup the way I want it.

Question on the VEPR - if you go to a 10-round mag, I'm assuming you're breaking 922r compliance the same way you do with the Saiga. I'm guessing this is why the Saiga is popular since "if you're gonna get a 10-rd mag, you have to convert it anyway". It cost-justifies the tinkering.

The "loophole" was that they were in transit waiting to be cleared by US Customs when the ban was enacted.
