    Saiga 12

Is it worth $899 +tax? I read mixed reviews about this shot gun.

    What do you think?

    thanks

    I have an SGL12-09 I love it.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE CSS RELIABILITY KIT so you can cycle low pressure stuff. If you dont be ready to only shoot hi pressure buckshot

Why don't you get a vepr instead?

It's not converted, it was factory built in that config.. Vepr12 is way better than the S12 even if you have EXP01 (factory folder) model.

I own one and I like it but Veprs are going for around the same price and have an important extra feature or two... I believe they have self regulating gas systems... which is a big deal on a shotgun. The rear sight is nicer on the vepr too... they usually come with the regular upper and lower handguard retainers (saiga does not)... et cetera

If it's not already converted, then expect to spend a bit more to get it where you'll eventually want it. $900 seems to be about the going rate these days for a NIB unconverted IZ109. There is a lot you can do to them and end up with a really nice shotgun, but that will cost more $.

What do you do with it? I think it would be useless against paper and looked down upon for any skeet competition. That only leaves self defense and $900 for self defense seems crazy. I picked up a police trade in pump shotgun for $139 as my SD weapon

Why is a shotgun being discussed in the semi-auto rifle/carbine section ??

RPK based (1.5mm receiver) , better machined / finished parts , better sights , solid working LBHO , ambi safety , hinged / railed top cover , better mags (Milspec saiga and vepr mags interchange) , factory mag well , no conversion required , cheaper than a converted s-12 , nice factory trigger. Vepr 12 was adopted by some nato forces , there is licensed production in Germany.
