Does anyone know of these still being made?
Savage still makes a .22/.410 combo gun called the model 42. Can be had in .22lr or .22 wmr over a .410 bore shotgun.

aippi - where in Michigan (generally)? Me from dah UP eh.

Me - I would go easy to maintain, fix, clean and shoot over the most compact model (or built like a tank). Deep backcountry, you trip and break something on your gun, no matter how small it is, if you can't run it - it aint worth having...

Sure, an extra pound sucks, but it's the back woods, so doubt it needs to be uber-concealable.

That'd be about the most compact and heaviest hitting shotgun I could imagine that's legal in CA (not counting the SERBU Super Shorty, Saiga 12 Tromix, or the AA-12).

I have a youth H&R, 20G, 20" barrel and 12.5" stock. I've considered cutting down the barrel and sanding the stock to see how light I could make it. It's a great gun for backpacking, or hiking with a gun. It kicks really hard though. Not sure what kind of youth gun it really is.

And yeah, what's up with the close calls?

And what's to really think about, just get any pump with a short barrel and call it done. What do you need the pistol grip and folding stock for? Those features are not enhancements in my book, even for woods carrying.

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Well, I cant figure out any possible hold where you could use sights and retain your front teeth

Not sure if you want a complete shotgun at the ready that's compact, or if you want it compact just for transport. Here is what I carry hiking:
My 30" arrow is for reference. Westernfield SB30A in 16 gauge. I intend on finding a Stevens 520 in 12 gauge someday. I have an 18-3/8" barrel assembly and a 30" barrel for hunting. It's surprisingly light for an old Browning designed gun, but I wish the LOP was shorter on the stock. I wonder, are there any take-down shotguns in current production?
                I fly everywhere backwards.

I wouldn't want to go head to head with it with my Stoeger, thats a fact. Lol

That is a FANTASTIC shotgun to have. As a 16 gauge aficionado any takedown 16 gauge is a wonderful thing

I happen to have a stevens 520 in 12 gauge.... trade options ?

A M6 with 18" barrels is the most compact, non NFA shotgun that you can get.

They are just as legal in CA as any other state that allows AOWs. Of course, all NFA regulations apply and, now, getting one from out of state will require some sort of interesting roster exemption.

I completely agree on having a stock - but I guess it depends on what you are using it for. From some peeps posts you would think they only want a shotty to scare folks off their weed farm in the forest
