Not sure if these issues are fixed now, but I got a couple of 870s post 2007, and one of them had the extraction issues (now fixed by polishing the chamber). I haven't had a chance to test the finish on one of them (it's mainly been a range gun, and it spends most of its time as the home defense shotgun), but the one that does get out in the field rusts when you look at it funny. I've been meaning to refinish it forever, just didn't get around to it. For example, my brother spilled some water on it and some other guns. It was in the desert, the water was wiped off and evaporated almost immediately. No issues with the other guns, but the 870 sported brand new rust the morning after.
I got a 1951 Wingmaster a bit over a year ago, and a 1971 1100, and the fit and finish on them is WAY better. There's no way I'm buying a new one again, I'll stick to those old Remingtons.DiaHero Foundation - helping people manage diabetes. Sending diabetes supplies to Ukraine now, any help is appreciated.

congrats on your old Wingmaster and 1100. my favorite shotgun is an old 1965 Wingmaster (Brushmaster 20" w/factory rifle sights) that i found on Gunbroker. the original owner bought the shotgun new and kept it in the safe until i made the purchase a few years ago. the patina on the metal almost drips off of this old Wingmaster. there's no look that's more appealing than wood on metal.Comment

All of this rough chamber talk, also take into account a lot of these issues were (Bulk) ammo related in ALL shotguns in the last few years. Old and new guns.
But we're labeled as an new age 870 issue because a few did have rough chambers which did not help the issue. But many people my self included found the common denominator to be winchester bulk and sometimes federal after the panic.
In post and pre 80's 500/590's. Post and pre 80's 870's. Semis and pumps. Again most of which seemed to be more common after the panic ammo scare of sandy hook. Issues seemed to dissapeared when we used more expencive higher quality ammunition in 870 and pump guns alike. Rough chambers and all.Comment

Can't expect Mossberg perfection but that's not why I got it. I was able to solve the ejection issue by tuning the extractor and spring. The uneven vented rib is um.. just irritatingComment

I've played with exactly one example of both (pre Freedom group and post Freedom group), so my sample size is limited.
That being said, the pre has been solid. The post suffered from a lack of QC, or looser tolerances in QC such that I have fixed a number of things. Mainly, the finishing on the machine work is, IMO, subpar (sharp edges, burrs, etc.) and in my case the trigger group had to be replaced.
I'm sure at some point aippi will step in to remind us that all of the parts for all of the 870s (wingmaster, police, express, etc.) come off of the same production line. Likewise I'm sure he'll remind us that people who have extraction issues with cheap bulk ammo likely did not clean their chamber before shooting, and as such have caused their own extraction problems. I'm sure he'll also tell us that all of his shotguns run any bulk pack ammo without a single hiccup. He may also remind us that he is a certified armorer that builds these guns professionally and as such, has the knowledge, tools, and time to ensure they work well.
From my one data point of experience I would say it is wise to disassemble, deburr, dehorn, clean, and polish the chamber before use.
I'm sure aippi would, at the very least, urge you to clean the chamber before firing which may eliminate any possibility of 'sticky chamber'.Comment
