    RIA M5 Update: Toothpick edition

So I bought my M5 and picked it up a while ago. Life happens, so I haven't had a chance to throw any rounds downrange with her yet. I did pick up some wood furniture for it from Numrich and after I refinished the stock, put it on.

    What do you think?

    Before

    After

And look, no gnarly toes in the pics......

Great looking gun. How much do you have into it?

It looks good, the wood furniture definitely improved the looks on the shotgun in my opinion.

BTW a couple of small photographic recommendations: It takes a lot of light to capture the details on a gun, so you'll need a large light source, or you'll need to take the picture outdoors. Also, don't have too many other junks in the picture, they don't look good.

Gotshotgun, I have about 280 into it not counting the stain, tru-oil, and time stripping, sanding, staining, staining, sanding, steel wooling, tru-oiling, etc.

Thanks BBB, I actually couldn't warm up to the plastic, so wood I went.
I appreciate the tips on pics, I will try to do better when I use something other than my cell phone. I love the pictures that some of yall post up here and I really would like to try that one of these days.

$280 into the whole gun or just the stock?
            Looks good.

Thanks. It was about 190 for the weapon and about 75 for the wood plus stain and supplies. If my brain is working correctly.

Looking nicely old-school now. Update us on how it runs at the range.

Yeah, I feel bad about not range reporting her yet. I have a couple weeks before I do. I just had surgery and don't want to pop a stitch. Lol

Nicely done. I'm about to do similar to a Mossberg 590A1.

Does the M5 share hardware with some other common model, or is it all proprietary?

I got the wood from Numrich, they listed it for the M5 specifically, although I really think it's for the Armscor M30. (The one they sell in the rest of the world?) The grip cap (?) says Armscor Philippines on it. The stock was laquered or shellacked to beat the band and I stripped it and refinished it. My very first try at this type of thing. The forend was installed as delivered, I may go back and redo it, but I just wanted to get it up and going for now.

Mossbergs have versions out there with wood furniture. You can find plenty on Ebay and whatnot that was taken off of guns going "tactical". Numrich also has a large listing on stocks and forends, so you should be able to tailor to your taste way easier than me. The 590 is definitely on my wish list.

Nice job! I just put that exact model in jail on Wednesday! Your version looks a lot better!

Any tips on the stock refinishing? Off to Numrich.

Forgot to ask: what products did you use to strip the finish and what finish did you use?

And in all fairness, just because JMB did it doesn't mean anything. He'd have won WWII with a soup can, a fork, and a couple rocks. Seriously, even McGuyver and Steven Hawking get together every now and then and are like "How the **** did he do that?..."
