Aguila makes 1 3/4" mini buckshot and slugs (other brands make it too I think)

I've heard mixed reviews on it though that it has troubles taking down small varmint since its a weaker load. Probably not the best for HD. Also it's hit or miss with functioning in a lot of shotguns.

I was thinking ca law limited all mags to 10 rounds. I would not use mini shells for home defense. I'm almost, always on private land but it backs up to county land.

        Aguila 1.75" 12Gauge 7/8oz slug = 1250 FPS (muzzle)

Aguila mini-shells have been 100% reliable out of my Kel-Tec KSG.
Only problem I have is finding them in stock (most places are sold out).

Believing the letter means something makes about as much sense as thinking something is illegal with no logical basis for doing so.
Opinion letter won't do a thing to prevent an arrest. What it does do is give you a reasonable basis for believing your actions are legal, and a potential malpractice case against the attorney as a potential route to recover some or all of the (substantial) expense of your criminal defense.

As a practical matter, a lawyer is unlikely to either tell you to load more than ten rounds in your gun or to write the letter. Lawyers will not write an opinion for anything, a malpractice suit could cost them their license to practice law and their resulting ability to make a living. Same deal for legal advice.

Just to be clear, none of this is legal advice. This message board is not a forum for that. I'm just suggesting that you should consult a lawyer with experience in California's gun laws if you want an answer to rely on.

Well sure, but that still doesn't stop a potential crap storm if something does happen. The reality is in this state, it could happen over just about anything including things that are common knowledge like say... a 30 round magazine in a featureless rifle, since it just takes 1 cop who doesn't know what he's doing, and a DA with an agenda.

Even then, that doesn't change the fact that one lawyer might tell you to load as many as you want while another might say never load more than 10. The actual level of familiarity with CA gun laws is another potential difference.

People do similar things keeping copies of the flow chart, PC, etc. in their range bags, yet I can't recall ever hearing of any instance of a cop stopping someone because they think something is illegal, being handed a flowchart, and then sending people on their merry way(I'm not saying it hasn't happened, simply that I don't recall reading about it). I have heard of cops(BLM a few times) stopping someone, and then contacting another officer(I've actually encountered this for something non-firearm related), and then leaving people to go about their business.

I have also had perfect reliability with the Aguila mini-shells in my KSG. I just make sure while in CA I only have 20 on board

However, if you are a member of the KTOG forums, you can see at times some do report issues. But then again, KSG's themselves can be hit or miss it seems.

A KSG with problems feeding aguila mini shells is something I'd still chalk up to the shells themselves as I've seen complaints about them not working in all sorts of guns, not just problems in KSG's, but then other people will report that they work in their same model shotgun just fine.

Agreed. The solution to avoiding the crap storm is to not load more than 10 rounds.

Not really, because if the cop knew so little about firearms(or knew enough and didn't like the idea of normal people owning them) they'd try to nail you for 20 rounds in the KSG(even though it's 2 magazines), or because you can load more than 10 mini shells in the tube(really the same issue, just 2 different ways of going about it).

I don't see a surefire way to avoid trouble with the police, over guns or anything else. An officer who want to make your life hard can find an excuse to do so.

Not loading more than 10 rounds seems more likely to avoid trouble than the alternative, though.

So would not shooting an AR, so would never using a 10/20 or 10/30 magazine, so would not using a featureless build, so would not using a BB and having to top load the AR, etc.

It's not an issue with AR's, I don't see why people want to be cautious with shotguns with no actual basis for it.

Out of all of the people at the range that a cop with a bug up his *** about guns could hassle(and maybe actually find some sort of violation), why would they bother with the guy with a shotgun?

The lesson of the day is, if you're not comfortable with loading your shotgun with more than 10 rounds don't do it
Bounce a ball in Football that's a fumble. Baseball, no bouncing at all. Bounce a ball in Hockey, well that's a mandatory drug test right there...
