Looking to get into trap and skeet

New to the world of trap and skeet and want a decent entry level O/U gun between 5 and 7 hundred.

At that price range, you might as well go with a semi-auto. You'll get a lot more gun for the money. I shoot trap almost every weekend and I use a semi-auto. Some places might need you to put a rubber band on the ejection port to prevent shells from hitting other shooters but thankfully, the places I shoot don't require it. That's the only downside if you're shooting trap.

OP,

Do you own any shotgun right now? If so, I would use it assuming it isn't a tacticool one. Otherwise, try to borrow one for a little while before buying a lower end "entry level" shotgun that you probably won't be happy with.

I've been looking to get an o/u myself. The maverick o/u and stoeger condor are both under $500, but not sure if they're good. Anyone have an opinion on those?

Check out Weatherby SA-08 series of shotguns, I see them often at the local range and they seems very nicely built and reliable. There's also the Beretta A300 Outlander, another very good shotgun.

I'll have to check out the Weatherby! The Beretta was a bit expensive for my friend when he was looking, I thought it was about $100 over his budget, but I might be wrong. For sure we were looking at the 300 and not the 400 though.

Save a little more. Get up to $1k'ish and the world opens up.

If $700 is really your upper limit, think about a used Beretta 303/390/391, Rem 1100 auto.

If even $500 feels like a lot of money, figure on mastering a quality pump gun.

Here is my advise to you. Get a low cost shotgun of decent quality, which will mean a pump in the 3-500 range with a 26" or longer barrel with interchangable choke tubes. Hit the rang with the remaining money and get a good mentor and/or a few lessons with the money that would have been spent on the low budget O/U....you will be far far ahaed in the rewards to cash spent sector

Checkout your local gun stores for pre-owned ones. My friend recently found and bought a pre-owned Browning Citori from his LGS, at your price range.

After he took it home and did a little cleaning, it looked like new and shot like a charm.
