The first lesson had the requisite gun safety and etiquette 101, then got into stance and working from #3 with the trap set for straight away. On the second box of shells we moved to #2 and #4 still on straight away. Some wind gusts didn't help me too much but proper mount and muscle memory were established.

Today the first box of shells were on the straight away but visiting each position. The 2nd box of shells we went to oscillating. Being the bass-ackwards person that I am #3 was total failure but then I nailed the hard stuff consistently with a few total failure hail marys thrown in for good measure.

Each lesson = the time it takes for 2 boxes (45min - hr).

So far the most important thing that I have been educated on is where to focus over the trap house - once I understood that premise my shooting (and confidence) GREATLY increased. (It took a bit to get this lesson as Warren was determined that I was looking at my beads and not the clay even though I was adamantly denying that I was not. But I WAS focusing about 4ft higher than the house)
Sounds like you're learning fast and found an instructor you like right off the bat. You're way ahead of most new shooters!!!! Congrats!

Never met Warren Fine. How much does he charge?

Why can't you practice what you have learned on your own?

          PM sent on his rates.

Warren just wants to make certain that my muscle memory is in a good place before he turns me loose on my own so that I don't undo what I just paid to learn.

You are taught a proper gun mount, you should go home and practice until it becomes second nature. You are taught some aspect of body mechanics, go home and practice it.
If you only practice with your instructor there, you will either shoot very little or be broke from the constant lessons.

Warren is happy with my consistency so I got the go ahead to start practicing on my own. Today was my 3rd lesson and my confidence is really growing. Once I can stop making the same mistake over and over (#4, exact same trajectory EVERY time - hey I'm consistent!) I "should" be able to add 3 more birds to my score (shot a 19 and a 20 today).

Thank you gentlemen for all the help and encouragement, it is appreciated! From the standpoint of a beginner I completely recommend Warren for anyone embarking on their trap journey (although I have strong suspicion that he is good for more advanced folks too).

19 and 20 aren't "beginners" scores. I'd put you in the lower portion of the intermediate class already.

I was able to sign up for just the singles day of a Nora clinic at Redlands and after watching her on youtube I feel really fortunate! My basics are feeling really good, and after a week of no trap I had a 19/21 today.

In case anyone is interested, I was told that Oak Tree is setting up a vendor day for sometime in May. The focus will be on higher end shotguns that folks don't normally get the opportunity to try. Also, their pro-shop currently has many Beretta items on sale (accessories at least).
